Manual Trans high idle

Well, wouldn't you know it. I went to the dealer today to have the high idle feature enabled. I showed them page 226, and TSB 18-004-04. They still said it couldn't be done, untill... I spoke with DC, and they called the dealership. Now, they are calling thier district rep trying to figure out how to do it. DC also gave me a phone number for Cummins. When I spoke with them, he told me about the feature, and that it was available on both transmissions.

So, I asked if he would fax the bulletin to me. The Cummins bulletin number is 4907665. On the bottom, it reads "Revised 24-Jan-2005". It mentions this is an available option on all 05 models, auto or manual. If, however, it has a manual, it requires a clutch switch kit; Cummins P/N 4089851, Mopar P/N 05175417AA. It is said to work the same as if you had an auto, except if a Jacobs engine break is installed, the limit will be about 1,350 RPMs. I don't know if this has been posted. If not, maybe it will help someone out.

In the meantime, time to make some more phone calls for myself.

Let us know how it turns out as many of us with the manual transmission would love to have this feature.

We already have a clutch switch installed. The clutch need to be pressed down to start the engine.

Guys, I know you have "a" clutch switch that allows you to start the truck. I'm fairly sure that the engineers at both Dodge and Cummins know that too, otherwise they wouldn't have come out with another new part and part number. And, I don't know if it works on an 03 or 04. I spoke with a guy named Tom at Cummins Customer Support Center. The number given to me by a rep at DiamlerChrysler was 1-800-343-7357.

I have an automatic, so info on a manual is a waste of my time. As a courtesy, I'm just passing on what I found out to those of you who want this feature on your manuals and might like to investigate it for yourselves.

Yes we do but it doesn't give the safety input the high idle feature wants, it wants the clutch engaged so it knows that if you push the clutch to put it in gear that it will return to normal idle.

Well, I have a 05 with a 6 speed in it, and when it is below 34 F it will idle up to a 1000 rpms untill the engine temp. is higher than the outside.

yes, they all do this, what we're talking about here is the driver controlable high idle that is controled thru the cruise control buttons, & can be set between 1000-1500 RPM, & so far is only available on auto trans trucks

I really hope this is true! The next question then is...is it covered under warranty the same as the autos are if you complain about poor heat or whatever the bulletin was for. Or are we on the hook for paying for not only the switch but also the flash as well?
