Most people wait until the engine is broke in (aka ring seated properly) some time between 7500-25,000 miles. If you tow 5K or more weight all of the time then you could change over at 7500 miles but if you just use your truck as a Daily Driver then I would wait until 20,000 miles.

How many miles do you have? How have you maintained the truck?

Generally I say between 15K and 100K >> Go for it... Especially if you are going to hang onto the truck for a long period of time to see the benefits of syn over conventional oil... Over 100K is going to depend on how you have maintained the truck... Maybe use an engine purge for a few hundred miles and then switch over but you have to keep in mind that if you have a problem that you are trying to correct >>> It won't matter what kind of oil you use >>> Miracles don't come in a bottle no matter how good the sales pitch is!

32,000 and I just bought it so I am trying to figure things out. it is my daily driver and I live in an area that I am driving in grades as high as 8%. I plan on keeping it around for a long time so want to know how to make it last?
most of my driving is empty but I do pull a 24' trailer a few times a year.

Ditto...

Use a high grade Syn >> Not an off the shelf at a discount store brand... I recommend Schaeffer Lubricants to my clients but Amsoil, and Royal purple are very good too. You will have to find a distributor but it is worth the effort if quality really matters to you.

Has anyone here heard anything good or bad about the CJ4 rated full synthetic that Lucas offers? Is it one that should be avoided or is it good stuff?? Curious as I just heard today that a local parts store will be getting it in in the near future.

Any rated CJ4 will be as good as the next. This will fluff a lot of feathers, but you will not see any particular brand suggested in your owners manual, the only thing mentioned is the rating of CJ4.

Talking with Cummns they say after the first 1000-5000 miles first oil change you can run full syn. I use Cummns service guys for all our desiel generator ALL are Cummns and that all the use is full syn. They use mobile Delvac.
I've done this on any vehical I ve ever ouwned and there still running. Got a Duramax w/115k and uses no oil. My truck 30k syn sibce first oil change.
