Starter doesn't turn sometimes - have to disconnect/reconnect batt.

I have a totally stock 07 6.7 which has an intermittent starting problem. When
it happens, the starter does not turn and I hear no solenoid click. It doesn't even try to start. There is no CEL and all the idiot lights/gauges look normal. I found that if I disconnect the batteries and reconnect them, it starts right up every time.

I've had this happen about 20 - 30 times in the year I've owned this truck.

Has anyone else experienced (or solved) this problem?

Sounds battery cable/connection related to me.

Have you had the dealer look at it (if they aren't already out of business)

I mentioned it to the dealer the last time it was in for a CEL and they said they've never heard of the problem and it (of course) didn't happen while it was in the shop. I was hoping to avoid the hassle of having it towed into the shop when it happens, but I had to "reboot" by truck TWICE today.

The next time it happens check your keyless remote. If that is inop also, your wcm is locking up. There is a TSB for this problem Ive seen it alot. You dont have to disconnect the batteries you can remove the IOD fuse for about 10 seconds and it will start. The IOD fuse usually has a plastc housing around it either black or white not the yellow one.

The wcm is the wireless control module. It controls the secutiry system and remotekeyless entry. They have an updated part that is hopfully going to fix that problem.

See if you are throwing a code also. We have had an 07 and an 08 in for the skim key issue. The 07 had to have the modual replaced.

I had the same problem, but it had to do with the engine kill function of the Viper alarm system that I had installed at a stereo place. I had the function disabled and it started working fine.
