oil level
I had an oil change done at 3332and 7746 miles. Both changes were suggested by message on overhead console. Both 12 qt oil changes were on the safe mark. After 1000 miles the oil has risen to the top of the white plastic marker indicating an overfill.
I haven't seen this subject talked about lately, and I'm wondering if it' still an unknown happening. I went in to my 5 star Dodge dealer, and the service mechanic never heard of this. I'm supposedly current with all flashes, and am having no other problems or codes. Has any one pursued this oil rising item for an answer or remedy, or is it a malady of our 6.7 trucks?
Also the service writer didn't think the owners manual had oil changes (severe)at 7500 miles. Other than the above mentioned oil problem, the truck has been a great pulling machine at about 10-11 mpg. My old 2003 3500 SRW,6Spd manual pulled the same 5er at about 12-13 mpg. Also, how do you get an hour readout on the 6.7? Thanks, Patrick

My dealer tech told be it's because of the regens. The more regens you have the more fuel gets dumped in the oil. Dunno how true that is but, that's what he said. I also asked about the oil change required light coming on every 3k and he said it goes off after so many regens.

i wouldnt put much faith in that guy. That is entired possible that it is fuel in some cases, but there are quite a few ppl that have sent off for oil analysis that come back and show normal amounts of fuel in oil, so i dont believe thats whats causing the majority of the cases.

2008 Mega has showed "overfull" on oil stick since I bought. Had a oil sample
done by BLACKSTONE LABS and they reported 2 1/2 percent fuel in oil. They
suggestested it could be a leaking injector or fuel pump or the fact that my
rings had not completely seated.If "REGENS" are causing the problems, I should have fuel coming out of the dipstick tube because I am going into
REGEN about twice every 100-150 miles. Am supposed to be current on all
my flashes according to the service manager.......

Given the proper wait period, you may notice that the oil "reads" high on the stick. As long as it's consistent - nothing to worry about. My "normal" reads to the top of the measurement tab and has done this from day 1. But it never changes so I don't worry.

I always check my oil level in the morning , hours after use. My last 1000 miles has been no pulling city driving,which makes the oil level rise from the 12 qt level. It apparently is caused by the "regeneration boogie man", and I guess the answer is to change your oil whenever the change oil message comes on.
My main purpose in going to the dealer twice with this issue was to have it recorded. My wife & I are pulliing our 5er out west this summer on a 12000 mile trip, so I'm trying to prevent problems.
How do you get the engine hour read out on the odometer? I got it one time yesterday showing 246 hours @8659 miles which averages out to 35.2 mph, but I'm not sure how I got the hours. Ithink I had all the dash lights blinking! Thanks Patrick

I was looking over at TDR, where they are discussing fuel in the oil causing the oil level to rise.The popular thought seems to be the regeneration cycle as the cause. When I asked my service writer, he said he had no knowledge of this event.
I fear this dilution of oil is causing wear (damage)to our 6.7. I bought my vehicle in July 07, did'nt tow for 500 miles, then pulled my 14K 5er 7200 miles out West. My oil change warning came on at 3200 in Albuquerque where I had my oil changed & was told by service writer that the the new 6.7 requires an oil change every 3000 miles.

I have never heard of the regen being a cause of fuel in the oil. If this is the case then cummins should be offering the same warranty as GM did for their leaky injector issues. 200000 miles on the engine. In 02 and 03 the Dura max would fill itself to the brim with fuel as the injectors would stick open. With a CAT and DPF on the exhaust you will never know how much fuel is being dumped because you can't see the raw fuel coming out of the exhaust pipe. Please explain to me how the regen can fill the crank case with fuel. If this was the case,,,, our crank cases would be so full of exhaust pressure it would be blowing seals all over the place. I would be a lot more concerned that you have an injector or two leaking. My dealer is Horsepower friendly and we talked about this one day. He said he has seen these trucks come in with fuel coming out of the dipstick tube cause they are so full of fuel. Get it checked and make sure they write it down if they say the injectors are fine. If they are wrong, you can melt down cyls, especially if you are towing a heavy load. If one of these injectors sticks open it has 23000psi of fuel behind it and it will keep dumping fuel into the cyl until it melts down. If you don't have it in writing, you will be stuck for a huge repair bill. I wouldn't take any chances if it were me.

I checked my oil level this afternoon,not having started the engine. The oil level shows on top of the white bulb at the end of the dip stick (wire). Just for the heck of it, I drained one quart of oil out of the crank case, again with out starting the engine. This now put the oil level about a half inch above the highest safe mark on the dip stick.
Again when I had my oil changed about 1,000 miles ago and when I checked the oil level before leaving the dealership, the level showed the middle of safe on the dip stick.
I kind of feel like I've talked this to death, so in closing, I'm going to get an appointment with my dealer, Brandon Dodge, to check my injectors, regeneration, or whatever real mechanics check.

Patrick, that is probably good to have it checked, but make sure you compare apples to apples. You should always check your oil the same way each time so you know if it is filling up or not. Checking your oild when the engine is cold in not normal practice as far as I know. If you check it right after the dealer does an oild change it most likely will have oil in the top of the engine so the level may seem higher in the morning when it all drains down to the pan.
Check your manual and it will tell you when to check it. I would ASSUME!! that the dealer would be doing the same.
