"normal" egts?
Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum as well as being new to the cummins world. Just got my self an 08 6.7 with 45k on the clock and im pretty much in love with it. My first diesel truck . Anyhow after spending the past month reading through these extensive forums my truck is going to be loosing some weight after the holiday bills get paid. With that being said I just installed a boost gauge (tapped the intake horn) and a pyrometer (tapped the collector just above the turbo). Not deleted yet and no power adders. I couldn't find any numbers for normal egts with the stock setup. All the numbers I've seen have been post delete with programmers which makes egts lower if I've read it correctly. That is until you start pushing the fuel/boost levels. I haven't played with the positioning of the pyro yet, but im certain its right where it needs to be. I bottomed it out in the manifold, marked the spot then measured half the distance and tightened it down. I'm seeing around 6-700 at idle and have already gotten it up to 1300 while going down the road. I do have a heavy foot...... Whats your thoughts on those temps for a stocker? Seem kinda high to me???

When I was stock I would see between 700 and 800 at IDLE, normal day to day driving it would be between 800 and 1000F. Regen could raise the temps to 1450F during the process. Towing I could see 1100 to 1200 max and then when regening the truck would climb to a max of 1450F. This is all normal use of the truck and cleaning of the DPF. I ran this way for a year until the system fill off.

WOW.....I can't believe those are idle EGT's....that's nuts. I know I use to see around 1250-1300* all the time when I was hauling with my '03 but it quickly went back to around 300* once at idle.

I have a 2004.0 and my idle is around 300. Going down the road empty, I see between 300 - 600. Maybe 900 when I push it and the turbo has not kicked in enough. Top I have seen is 1100 - 1200 when pushed hard. Location of the ETG gauge may also be a factor. If the probe is placed in cylinder 1-3, reading may be up to 300 higher. I used the instructions on Dieselmanor.com (install sheets) for the location of the ETG probe

Thanks for the input gentleman! I suppose its possible my truck went into regen right after I did the install. I cant wait to put her on a diet and then feed her some EFI live tuning. It was incredible how much soot was in the horn, throttle valve and egr, can only imagine what the turbo looks like!!!!!

I know on cold days, once back to idle my trusty ol '03 will fall all the way down to around 275*. Could be a good thing, good be a bad thing.......but I know the bearing and thrust washer in my charger are liking it!!!
