smoked the clutch
smoked the clutch
Just made our trip from Canadian Maritimes to Texas towing our 40ft 5th wheel. Truck still only has 3500 miles on it. On the way down we got stopped on an incline and when I tried to launch the clutch slipped and it actually produced quite a bit of smoke. I had to put it in 4X4 low to get away. Then when trying to back into our site, I was 2 or 3 minutes unable to move because I couldn't put the thing in first or reverse. Finally got it in third, engaged 4X4 low and got moved. Was ok after that, and working fine.
I took the truck to a dealership here in Texas. The sales manager test drove it and said he didn't like the feel of the clutch pedal. I've driven stick for nearly 25 years now and I don't feel like the clutch is not right. He has ordered up a new hydraulic clutch slave which will be put in next week.
I pointed out that the 2 problem I had are opposite in nature. Not tight enough when I smoked it and too tight when couldn't shift. He says we start with the slave.
Has anyone out there experienced such a thing, or can you suggest what has gone wrong??
