New 2500 and 3500 6.7 6 speed auto

Stopped by my local Dodge dealer yesterday, and lo and behold, they had 2 2500s and 1 3500 with the new 6.7 and the 6 speed automatic. Didn't get to drive one, but I did notice that on the gear selector, it had the + and - gear switch like the Allison autos. Also, I don't know if it is standard on even the pickups, but all three had an exhaust brake, and listed it at no extra charge on the options. The 3500 was open, and I popped the hood, and, while there is more stuff under the hood, it don't look as bad as the 6.4 IMHO.

Sorry if this is old news, just was kinda excited to see this.

Sorry, no pictures. The 3500 was a white Quad cab and the two 2500 were also Quad cabs. One was a Patriot blue and the other was a bright silver. These were at Keller Motors in Perryville, MO. 63775

Ok, just to update.

Just got back from the dealership and I test drove the Patriot blue 2500 4x4. Geez, if it didn't have all that emisions stuff on it, I would have liked to trade.

The six speed auto seems to be pretty seemless with the engine. Also, when you manually downshift the tranny, using the + and - on the gear selector, about the only way you can tell it downshifted is that the tach goes up. Really smooth. It also had 3.73 gears in the back, just like mine, and going 55 in 6th with the torque converter locked, the tach showed around 1300 to 1400 rpm. Also, taking off, the engine has a slightly throatier sound to it, even with the exhaust brake off.

The best part that I liked was the exhaust brake. It really sounds like a good grunting exhaust brake. Really liked how it slowed up fast, and just love the sound. The key to making it grunt was to get on it and then let up real fast, while in about 3rd or 4th gear.

They did change some instrumentation around. Like the foglight indicator is once again a vacuum flourescent instead of the LED backlight symbol like on the 06.

Sorry to go on and on, but I was fairly impressed. Hope the new emissions devices to mess anything up too bad.

Chris

The real question is how is the 68rfe going to do with a heavy load behind it? Did they keep the same crappy designed TC? Is it going to rev up to 2300 RPM just to get the load moving. We'll have to wait and see.

Yeah I am really interested to see how the emissions do on these engines! That is really what is stopping me from getting one, with all the miles I drive I dont want to be the guinea pig! Plus I really want to see how the auto 6spd does with large loads!

I want one too, but....

I just bought my 07 5.9 being unaware that Dodge was coming out with 6.7- 6 sp auto. Keeping close track of ALL the post in most forums, there are (3) 6.7 engines with #1 piston meltdown, of course Dodge says there's nothing wrong with the engine that it's fuel contamination. 1, 6sp auto trans that flew apart, not once, but twice. I'm beginning to be happier with my 5.9 & the 4 sp. daily. I may get an 09 when they get da bugs out.
