Need Help and Advice???

Ok I don't really know a lot bout the new motors. I've got a close friend of mine that bought a 08 2500 4wd auto back before christmas. Hes run several tanks of fuel through it an is only getting about 15 or maybe 16mpg. Can any of you tell me so things to do to get the fuel milage up on this truck? Hes not really worried about power so much as jus gettin better milage. He is an older man an not really into the performance part. Is there any chips that are none detectable by a dealer? I think a smarty is non detectable but do the make one for a 6.7? Something like an EZ would be great I think but the again I don't drive one every day and only drove 2 6.7s and they were 6spd manauls. I thought I had seen a couple of videos on youtube of a 6.7 straight piped but do not know if its really possible and worth it. The truck is on the farm and around a lot of dust a lot so ain't to positive about the cold air intake. Any help is greatly appreciated. I need to learn some more about the new things any ways. Thanks

All chips and programmers are detectable. There at the point to where any mods kill the warranty. Best way to get good mileage is to drive it easy.

Reading about alot of the newer trucks not getting great mileage.

Matter of fact hop over to the Ford site and see the 6.4 site. Horrible mileage. To increase fuel mileage driving style probably infulences it the most. Driving slower on the highway is probably the #1 way to get better mileage. Also, dropping the front of the truck so it doesn't stand up in the wind, skinnier tires for less rolling friction. Some say the programmers like the Smarty can also increase mileage, but I haven't seen it.

After 24,000 miles I have seen a steady decrease in MPG. Wish I got 15-16 MPG. I believe any increase in MPG from break-in is offset by carbon build up from the EGR and DPF systems.

I have steady been getting between 15-17 mpg on Hwy and 13-14 mixed city/hwy 19500 miles since I bought it on 11/26/07 Don't get me wrong it will drop in to the 12.5-13 range on Hwy when it goes into freaking regen mode. But jumps up to about 18-19 after that but will average into the 15-17 range Only add on is the S & B Cold Air Intake setup

Wish that were true for my truck!! I'm still waiting for the better m.p.g.'s to kick in. 105k miles on the clock and it's still getting the same mileage as it did brand new. The only difference in m.p.g.'s is a slight increase while towing. Nothing like the 04.5 I had which did increase fuel mileage as it broke in. When the 04.5 hit the 100k mile mark the fuel mileage took the biggest jump increasing to over 20 m.p.g. @ 75 m.p.h. Don't think this 07.5 is ever going to see that kind of performance.

Thank yall for the input. I guess then he may jus be stuck in the position hes in now. I may put him a cold air on it an see if it helps. May have to keep after him to clean it a little bit more than he normally would. Hopefully it will go up though. I dont know how many miles are on it now. Jus know hes run 4 or 5 tanks of fuel through it is all. Thanks

There is a way to get way better mileage out of the 6.7L, but we can't talk about it on here. If you search around the other sites you'll find it. You'll go from 15 mpg up to 17-18 easily.

Good luck
