My first cel! Now what?

Is there a way for me to pull the codes on my 07? Truck is running fine but check engine light just came on. Thanks!

Turn the key quickly three times without starting the truck. On the third time, leave the key on but do not start it. The code should show on the odometer. Please let us know what you find out.

O.K......All it did was dashes and then "done". ...I did this several times and the same thing. So I took a quick trip in the truck and drove it hard for a few minutes. Check engine light went off! I'm sure this isn't the end of it........

Probably not. You had a code but if it's showing dashes, then the code cleared. How many miles do you have on the truck?

Mileage just turned 25k. Like I said, truck seems to be running good. My wife actually drives this truck and it gets mostly local driving unless we are pulling our toyhauler. She always drives with the exhaust brake on and no long idling time.

I drive pretty much the same way. I have 12k on mine and about a week or two ago, I have a P2262 code (Turbo Pressure Not Detected). I took it to the dealer, they did a reflash and I haven't had the issue since, but I feel it will come up again and the turbo work will need to be done. other than that, it runs great too!

These trucks seem to be smart enough to try and fix themselves. I think that is part of the design of the system. If they don't fix themselves then the light stays on. Take it into the dealer and get the latest flash if you don't all ready have it and have them do the latest TSB's on it.

If you are making a lot of short trips.. driving around town etc, it's best to drive in tow/haul mode. This will keep your RPM's up, thereby creating less soot while driving at lower speeds. The CEL could be for any number of things but driving in tow/haul mode will at least keep the system cleaner. I would suggest going out and buying a code reader. Inexpensive ones can be had for less than $50... a small investment for some peace of mind in knowing what is going on with your truck.
