CEL Is OFF. Now I'm Concerned...

Hey, the CEL has been off for about a week now!. I'm used to seeing it lit most of the time. Last time the light was on I checked for codes with my new scan tool. As expected, I found that infamous P2262 code stored in the PCM (freeze frame). I extinguished the CEL and from that time it hasn't been on since. No, the lamp isn't bad because it lights up before starting the engine, then goes out. I'm ecstatic but worry that something isn't right here because I expect it to be on most of the time like before. I guess whatever it was (had to do with turbo boost not being detected) has "fixed" itself.

Now that I wrote about this, the CEL will probably be on tomorrow....

Paranoid aren't we.

Man, it seems like a case of "your damned if you do and your damned if you don't".

I'm sure if the problem still persistes, the CEL will be back on soon.

If these trucks did not have check engine lights there would be very little to fix and not much to talk about.

Uh Oh!

Well, I jinxed myself by writing this post yesterday. The CEL is back on. This time my scanner picked up the following info:

Stored DTCs: P0489 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Low)
P2262 (Turbo/supercharger Boost Pressure Not Detected-
mechanical)

Pending DTCs: P0489 (same as above)
P2A00 (O2 Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 Sensor 1)

P2262 has been the usual code and sometimes I get the code about the O2 sensor but P0489 has been detected the first time. I still love the truck but I sure hope DC gets a handle on these issues.

Mine did the same thing. I went 6000 miles without a CEL light and suddenly I get the P2A00 and P2262 code. I cleared the CEL and drove it around a bit and listened to my Turbo. I feel it normally spins around 1500rpm but now it sounds like it spins around 1800-2000rpm. I might be a bit paranoid too. This is the second time I got this set of codes in a week. The funny thing is that I received the codes after I got my 12000 mile oil change and tire rotation.

I took my scanner to the dealer today to have their technician look at the stored codes. They said there is nothing they can do until DC comes up with a fix. I think they're just skirting the issue. I'll try another dealer and if that doesn't work it's time to pester the higher ups to force the issue. I do love the truck and anxiously await a permanent fix. I also have a strong feeling that a new computer flash may help but I can't just go and tell the dealer to do it without written authorization from Dodge.

What scanner is this that I hear everyone talk about? I am thinking that I might need one for when my new truck is delivered in April.

Is this something that just plugs into the ODBII outlet and just reads codes from memory?

It's an Innova. I purchased it at Wal*Mart for $98. It's a nice tool...reads all the codes, lists parameters seen during freeze frame and info can be downloaded to my computer & printed out. I can also turn off that infernal CEL if I wish. It's a snap to use. The OBDII outlet is right at the front of the bottom of the dashboard below the steering wheel...very easy to access.

Some say it does, some say you have to press a key. Best to call edge and ask. Mine is on order.
