Mobile Desoot Question

When the dealer performs a mobile desoot after servicing the vehicle does this mean that the tech just drives the vehicle hard for a while or does he have to force a regeneration in order to accomplish it? The reason I ask is that I would prefer to perform the process myself if a hard drive is all it takes. I don't like someone else driving my vehicle when I'm not there. Of course, I could ask permission to accompany him during the process but that's a little embarrassing. Thanks in advance for your advice.....

My truck did it's own mobile desoot last week. I got the Cat 80% full message and the truck ran like crap and would bog down anytime I gave it any fuel. There was definitely some hot exhaust gasses coming out of the tailpipe and my nice shiny tip turned a little gold from the heat. This all after 10,000 miles of never having this happen. The truck runs fine now....

Not sure if this accomplishes the same as what you're asking though and there is no way for us to make this happen at will. I think they hook something to the truck's computer that forces it to desoot.

I've also been informed by members here with guages that driving "Hard" doesn't really make the EGTs rise like you think they would. I had been driving hard (2200-3000rpms) for a day and a half when my issue started. I would have thought that 50 miles of this would have cleared up any soot issues but it was not the case.....

yes, they force the desoot through the computer. if you have access to a bullydog, it has the forced mobile desoot function. you start the process and need to drive until it is complete. usually around 40-50 minutes.

Thanks, fellas. I'm glad to learn that here is a device I can use to do the desoot process myself (BullyDog). I've read`of that device before but didn't know it contained that function.

Does the BullyDog attach to the scanner plug beneath the dash or does it require hard wiring? How many $$ does it cost? Thanks again...

It plugs into the OBDII port under the center of the dash while you are using it.

One further question: besides the Bully Dog is there any other tool that will provide a mobile desoot? How 'bout the Edge? Thanks from a first-time diesel owner....

I hear ya on THAT!! I don't want nobody beatin' on my $45k bread & butter down the highway for 45 minutes without me in it either. Especially now that I'm over the warranty. I wasn't too embarrassed to ask but of course I was turned down due to "insurance" reasons. So NO mobile de-soot for me and NO 45 minute "joy ride" for them!!
