milage differencd DRW/SRW

I now have a 04.5 DRW 4/4 4.10 Quad cab I get around 13 mpg Max. I am looking at eather a new 07 SRW 3500 Mega cab or a drw mega cab. The srw has 3.73 and runs about 2000 rpm at 80 mph the 07 DRW has 4.10 and runs 2150 at the same speed. My 04 runs 2450 at 80. My ? is what do you guys think the milage difference will be. I pull a 40 ft toy hauler and think the dually would be better wile towing but I do think the 373 gears in the srw will be better all around.

if you are pulling a 40fter, i would hands down go with the dually and the 4.10s. NOt to say that the SRW wouldnt pull it, even with 3.73s, i know it would but if you dont mind driving a dually then thats the way i would go for sure.

I dont mind driving a dually at all. This was my first full year with a toy Hauler and I use it every weekend. I bought the 04 when I did more snowmobileing out west , then I pulled a 40 ft enclosed car hauler so i bought the 4.10 gears for the mtns. This toy hauler probely wont make it out of Minnesota much.

I'd go with the 4:10's b/c you pull so much. It's just easier on your drivetrain and with a trailer back there your mileage isn't going to be great no matter what you do. Get a Max mileage module from Quadzilla and call it a day.

i have an 08 2500 with the 4.10, with the 6 speed auto it has the same final drive as my 06 with 3.73 had, i am just completing a 9000 mile trip with small trailer and gross around 16000 lbs, glad I got the 4.10, the 3.73 would not have let me use 6th very often in the mountains etc. I always have something in tow including a 35' 5th wheel, 4.10 lets me use all the gears for good power

I have a 1 ton w/ 3:73 's and at 70 it is runnig 2100 rpm. I have read on here that others are the same. I dont see how you can be doing 80 at 2000.

The new 6 speed auto has two overdrives. I doubt you will be or should be pulling the 40' 5er in the the final overdrive. I agree with getting the dually if you pull alot. I've pulled with both and the dually gives more control, especially in the curves and with heavy winds. I'm sure there is some MPG hit though. I pull a 27.5' Arctic Fox 5er with two quads behind it, and am lucky to 10 mpg, usually closer to 9mpg. But it does a great job towing!!

I guess it is the differance in the auto vs. manual. I wish mine would turn those rpms for better milage when empty.
