Maybe this truck was sold before it's time

I purchased a 2007 6.7L in November 2006. I now have 39,000 miles on it.
It appears that I cannot drive more than 5,000 miles before I get a "CEL" light. I have had the California Recall, oxygen sensors cleaned several time...one replaced. This time I only drove 2,000 miles before I got a new "CEL" light. Before I purchased, I checked several blogs...Duramax had "issues", PowerStroke has "issues", but I found nothing bad about Cummins. They might be the first to meet 2010 EPA specks, but they might have been better of to go slow and GET IT RIGHT. My diesel tech. says that they have seen no problems with 2008 models...why did I not wait ???
As you can tell, I am angry...this thing might make a good boat anchor. I am 63 years old and have NEVER owned a vehicle that has given me this many problems....Shame on you Dodge....Shame on you Cummins

Well said Lamb. My 07 is the biggest POS vehicle I have ever purchased new or used. That includes over 20 vehicles, one of them being a 1984 Reliant K car, which did not go to the shop once! I have had 2 travel trailers and 1 motor home, and 1 of the main reasons I bought this truck was for me and the wife to be able to buy almost any fifth wheel on the market. Fortunately [I guess], my problems started at 2200 miles, so early that we had not even shopped for the trailer yet. You could'nt GIVE me a fifth wheel now. We have driven over 15000 miles out west, many on some very remote 2 lane roads. I would not take this truck through Utah or Nevada if Dodge paid for the fuel!
Document everything!

To be correct with what you stated...Dodge is to blame not Cummins and it really is sad that Cummins has allowed their product to be altered in this way by Dodge. Cummins cannot even read the ECM on these trucks now...nor do they want anything to do with it. When I thought it might be a good idea to go to Cummins to figure out why I had all the codes etc...the service mgr there said..."We do not have the software to read that ecm, nor do we want to touch it because we are pretty much as green as you are with what Dodge has done to that set up." Maybe not exact but I sure do recall his honesty.
Like some of the hybrids on the market, I see this version of the engine as the Dodge way to Band-Aid something to get their market share until they can figure things out. Look at VW, they have planned on releasing their new diesel since the 07 model year and now it appears that it will not hit the ground as an 09 now but as a 2010 model. They are smart, do not release it until it works. Imagine that...saving on all the warranty issues, loss of customer loyalty and embarassment to build a better more reliable version.
Too bad Dodge is dollar driven.

Lamb, I am 20 years younger and bought mine for the same reason. The wife and I started to look at 5th wheels and bought the 2007 6.7L...it is at the dealership in sunny El Paso with it's first issues (only 4300 + miles). To read some of these post it can really get you worked up! I will hold my breath on not have multiple problems as I become more educated reading through this site.

If anyone needed old and reliable, they should of stay with the 5.9, that's what I've learned after being a tech for most of my life. Ever year I go threw this with my wife, and ever cute new car they come out with. I'm not going to be a beta tester for the first few years, and then when they get it ironed out they come out with a whole new design again, and the circle starts over unless they've had luck with sales and continue production and finally come to a good finished product.

This is honestly the worst vehicle experience I've ever had and I've owned over 30 vehicles in my 47+ years.
Lamb I hear you, that quote is an excerpt from one of my posts on another forum.

Truck is in the shop this weekend for the 6th time. Just had the turbo drilled and cleaned last Monday - drove a whopping 187 miles before it threw the P2262 code again. Yeah, I'm fired up too. And when I think about what I paid to experience this...

They're having problems with the 08's too. One guy on another forum (FOX/19 - I think) just lemon lawed his 07' for an 08' and he states his new truck is worse.

I'm sorry you guys are having so much trouble. I special ordered an '07 5.9 with nary a day to spare. Document everything for a potential buyback. On the subject of the new VW diesel,my buddy's a dealer in Carlsbad,Ca. They have a new Jetta diesel for demo purposes only on site. With all the emission stuff on it though,I wonder what the gain is over a gasser?

They obviously didn't test the truck long enough in real world conditions. If they had, all the P2000 and 2262 problems would have shown up. I agree - the truck was sold before its time. I've had mine serviced at least 5 times for the P2000 and twice for the 2262, they replaced the turbo about a month ago. It's been good since but I think it's just a matter of time before the new turbo has troubles because it's still the same basic design.

Is there a difference in turbo if the truck comes with factory exhaust brake?

I don't know. Mine is a 2500, which came with the EB as standard equipment. At first the rumor was if you used the EB all the time you wouldn't have turbo problems because the variable nozzle would be working all the time, sliding back and forth in response to the EB system. The rumor was wrong because most of the folks on the forums use the EB and still have trouble.

i purchased a 2007 with a 5.9L simply due to the facts that i heard horror stories of the first run 6.7L's. I have had minor issues with mine, but nothing major. I have had the truck almost exactly one year and have put 33,000 miles on it.

Had the dealership in El Paso drive it in since they didn't have a 5.9 on the lot.
