Injector Nozzels

I am very close to having my truck running after it was in Hurricane Ike. I had the injectors tested and only one tested bad. It needs a new injector nozzel. Does anyone know where I can get one used injector nozzel for a 6.7L 2007 diesel? I was hoping to avoid buying a whole set. or a whole new injector.

I believe the injectors are programmed and matched into your trucks computer. You can't just swap them out. Truck won't run. In the least, I think you have have your computer "learn" the new injector, let alone all of them again at one time...

There are aftermarket nozzles available from DDP if you wanted to upgrade for a cost less than OEM replacements.

I was corrected on the VIN lock to the injectors.. They are "trim" locked where the ECM has a trim value that is input into the program and the engine monitors performance to adjust. I don't know that anyone has just put in aftermarket nozzles without running a programmer or box.

What does this mean? Trim locked? How does a person swap injectors and do this? Is there a way to get the ecm to 'learn' about the new injectors with some kind of procedure without having to go to the dealer? Maybe a key on key off push the throttle pedal, roll down the passenger window half way and put the wipers on high?

I believe the trim is a sort of coefficient that each injector has based on its performance/testing that the computer needs as they just are not all identical but the computer can adjust for the known differences.

Not sure if this value needs to be programmed into the ECM or it can be learned by the program as a part of the injector itself and electrical connection.

Hey, I'm no expert, just tryin to learn here. Either way, the point was after you change nozzles I don't know that you can actually run it without a programmer of some sort.

How can we find out J? Its a thing I would like to know and like lots of stuff, the dealer can make it mysterious and then someone comes along and points out an easier and more affordable way to resolve.
Lets Learn...its part of BOMBing.

I know a guy that works at a dealership and is one of their senior techs. The whole reason for only swapping the nozzels is so I don't have to edit their number in the computer. Every injector for the 6.7l has a number on the side that must be in the computer or it won't fire. This value is changed with a Starscan computer or similar dealership type computer. If I change the injector, then I have to drag the truck to someone's shop, which is 50 plus miles in my case. And, I don't have a truck to pull it with since mine is undergoing surgery. So...I just need one nozzel to swap out with mine. Will a nozzel from a 5.9l fit? Any other input on the subject?

So swapping the tips is the way around the 'learning'? Is that correct? Anyone got a tutorial on how to do that?
I'd be into altering the tips but I still want to add some cooling in the cylinders...would low dose washer fluid blend work?

Yes, I think this is Neby describes if this is possible. Otherwise, I think one is stuck with the Starscan and dealer to marry any new number to the program.

Next up should be a tech article on how to swap the tips. Even include the R&R. I know that part of the task...just need to learn the tip swap.
