How are the sticks holdin up

I am still lookin for a new truck but was wondering how the 6sp manual trans is holdin up towin heavy? I am concerned with the aluminum gear box and a few other things. The proof however is in real world exp. Who tows a lot and tows heavy? I don't mean once in a while. Is the way to go the auto or the manual?

thanks

Get a real truck!!! 6 sp. manual. 200,000 miles no problem. Change the fluids every 15,000. Drive sensible, no lead foot, and the clutch will last just as long on a stock truck. The trailer I pull is close to 8,000 lbs. , on top of that oilfield stuff up to 15,000.

Like I said I am concerned with the aluminum gear box. I tow regularly about 15k. The trans on the ole dodge just let go big time. The clutch was in great shape but not one of the bearings. Just wondering how strong these housings really are and if they can take the strain of regular heavy towing?

The 05 that i had when I traded it in Had close to 200,000 miles on the G56 aluminum case trans mission, with a stock clutch. In my opinion its the way you drive that determines the longevity of the part in question. I would shift at 2100rpm consistenly, baby your truck and it will last.

I have always thought (just me I know) that the manual is a more direct connection to the rear than the auto. That being said (I feel) the manual trans has less slop in it or cushioning to take any abuse. If this is the case the gearbox on a manual doesen't get the advantage of the cushining effect of the auto. I know it's in the driveing but the reason I ask is to find out how you guys with the aluminum cases are doin? Also what size clutch is in the thing. Mine is a 13" and has never slipped. How are the clutches workin in the new ones? Again towing heavy.
