Dealer Says High Idle Can't Be Enabled
Hey, guys! I own a 2007.5 3500 RAM with manual tranny and brought it to the local dealer (Victoria, TX) where they flatly stated that high idle can't be enabled on a manual shift truck. I know this is a lot of hooey and called Chrysler technical service where the guy said he'd do some research and contact me tomorrow. Besides, nobody knows what the "mystery plug" in the photo below is for. Several techs at the dealership looked at it and didn't have a clue. I suspect it's for the high idle feature (clutch pedal switch?) and am tempted to "short it out" to see if I can simulate that switch but don't want to try it in case I blow something.
Anyhow, have any of you owners with the G56 tranny had a problem with enabling the high idle feature?

There is a recent thread that discusses that plug and has instructions on the how to ground out what wire under the dash for a 6.7 (that plug plays no part if I recall correctly). Then, all that needs to be done is enabled in the puter.
There is a clutch switch you have to buy that grounds one of the pins on the ECM. Most folks just forgo the switch and run the pin straight to ground. You have to do that and turn the feature on. That's it. A local Cummins shop or one of the guys on here will know which pin to ground. They use the high idle for the PTO feature. Good luck in your quest. If it was a 5.9 there is a thread on here about which pin to ground and the part number of it so you can get it from Cummins.

However Spooler, on the 6.7, it's apparently different - just a wire under the dash if I recall correctly. The thread on it was not too long ago.....maybe within 3 pages of here.
I have the same truck as you, and was told the same thing by my dealer. It has to be enabled by your dealer using their computer.
Then you have to get a flashlight, lay on your back in the floor board and find a dark green wire coming out of the firewall between the clutch pedal and e-brake pedal. It helps alot if you unsnap and slide the big connector thing in front of you. It unsnaps just like an old seatbelt. Push on the snap on the clutch side. Pull that thing down and towards the e-brake pedal. There is a dark green wire with a brown tracer... It will have a heatshrink wrap over the end of it. I cut the wrap off and added about 2.5" of wire with a eye connector on it and slipped it under one of the bolts holding the big connector.
In your picture, the connector is the big white & grey thing at the bottom of the picture.
My high idle works great, and I've had a half-dozen guys ask me about it.

We probably wouldn't be doing this again.

No offense.....but you're encouraged to try the instructions.........the dealer will not ground that wire for you - you have to - then have a smarter tech enable it with the scanner. (Btw, DON'T tell them you ground out any wires ------ "I got a clutch switch when I was out of town and installed it myself. I just need the feature turned on please so the ECM will recognize it." ----- As you've witnessed, they're too stupid to even look, or know what it is they're looking for.)
It is your choice. You can ground the wire for the cost of your time and pennies for the extra wire and eyelet you likely already have. OR Have the dealer want to put in a clutch switch that does the exact same thing for over $300.
thanks Festus. i was actually just looking up some of my old threads to give him and then realized that he started one of the last ones i posted to in reference to the high idle. Mr. Ed, not sure what issues you are having, but doing the high idle on the manual tranny 6.7 is really easy. follow the instuctions given previously and you should have no problems. did you ever ground the wire???? do that then find a dealer with a tech that can distinguish his a$$ from his elbow. SIMPLE!!
oh yeah, forget about the plug your looking at! i assure you it's not for the high idle switch. The green wire your going to ground down on the firewall is for the "optional" clutch safety switch. my truck has that little plug too (unused).

yeah, no jumpers or any of that. just find and ground that one wire, then have the dealer enable it. should take 15 minutes at home and then whatever time your dealer needs. only takes them 5 minutes to enable it through starscan, but they may want it longer. mine did it right there on the spot and didn't charge for it. they will not ground that wire for you though.
Thanks, guys. Your assistance is appreciated. Yes, I already knew about the green wire that needs to be grounded but I guess I was thrown off track when several techs at this dealership flatly stated it couldn't be done on my manual-shift truck UNLESS it had the PTO option (not sure if it does). I'm beginning to understand that the "mystery plug" is evidently not for the high idle feature at all.
I did have the computer programmed for the high idle feature some time ago at a dealership in Ocala, FL. If I can locate that green wire (which I'll try to do according to your instructions) then perhaps I'll be able to get this thing working.
Hey, if worse comes to worse I'll use an adjustable curtain rod between the seat and go pedal for a "poor man's" solution
...Thanks.
