Fuel Mileage?

I have 30K miles on my 6.7 and just took a 230 mile trip driving 70-80 and got 13mpg. To me this is very low when other claim to get 15-20 mpg or are they fibbing. I know that driving 70-80 will not give the best mpg but it still seems very low. I called a Chrysler rep and talked to a guy from guess were India and he of course has no idea what a Dodge truck looks like. He said I had to have the dealer to a diagnostic check before anything could be done. I made an appt for this Monday and will see what comes from it. As bad as the mileage is I still Love this truck and would not trade it for anything (well maybe not anything). I know others are having mileage problems as well and maybe it would help if everyone would call Chrysler and complain I know others have. The dealers can only do what the manufacture tell them to do so we need to be letting Dodge know. What are your thoughts and am I just crazy?

Thanks

13mpg at 70 to 80 mph sounds pretty normal to me.What do you think I'd get out of my 03 doing the same trip at the same speeds? Yep your correct

Honestly I did not buy my truck thinking I was getting economic ride. That being said, you pay dearly for anything over 65 mph from what I have seen. I am getting 16.5 to 18 highway and 13 to 15 in town. I cut back my speed to 65 mph on my last tank and was able to get 17.94 mpg hand calculated and run 575 miles before I refueled, bone stock. I think that most people with higher mileage are quoting the overhead console while cruising mine reads 22 to 24 mpg. I also feel the ones complaining about poor mileage are on the skinny pedal most often.

You guys are probably right I know that 70-80 on any truck is going to give some pretty bad MPG. I will try it next time and see what happens. I did not buy the truck for economy but for towing and the room of the MC. It's hard for me to drive 65 on a 70-75mph highway but I know you can't have both.

If I keep it between 70-75 I can get 13-13.5 and that is at best unless I drive 55-60, otherwise it is about 11-12 mpg and that is with 35k on it.

You play, you pay.Nothing wrong with running 70 plus mph in these trucks. But steller fuel mileage is not one of the benefits.

Pop the cruise on 69 MPH and see what you get. As far as everyone passing you, so what. They don't have to pay the fuel bill, you do.

I pulled my race car on an open trailer for a short trip (157miles). I hand calculated 14.1mpg and kept the speed to 65mph and rpms below 2k. I agree with people passing ya but like was said before they dont pay the fuel bill and less having to worry about tickets. My over head said 14.7 at the end of the trip.

Well, I have a bit of a heavy foot these days ... 75 - 80 mph on the highway.

I just filled up tonight and had 549 miles on the trip odometer. I put in 9.782 gallons in the tank ... I'm only getting 56.121 mpg!!! ****, I better slow down! Those Jetta TDI's suck up the fuel fast! ;-)

Sounds like just what mine is getting. 750 mile round trip doing right at 73 14.6 one way 12.4 the other with a nasty headwind. We are just gonna take it in the shorts with the milage on these new trucks.

I am really looking at some enhancements to mine right now. All legal of course(smog checks for diesels here) to help with this issue. My biggest problem is trying not to void the warranty on it too or to have the EPA police after me My guess is it won't be long till they go after the boxes and programmers on these new truck.

The new 2008 (or 2009) TDI's are not even out yet! I'd love to see one of them (Jetta Wagon preferably).

Remember the good old days when the Interstate speed limit was 55mph.
It was just for a few years. I wonder if that was re-instated if that would help our national fuel economy. It would probably save some lives at the least.

The older I get, the easier it is to slow down.
