Fuel Mileage?
#17
Honestly I did not buy my truck thinking I was getting economic ride. That being said, you pay dearly for anything over 65 mph from what I have seen. I am getting 16.5 to 18 highway and 13 to 15 in town. I cut back my speed to 65 mph on my last tank and was able to get 17.94 mpg hand calculated and run 575 miles before I refueled, bone stock. I think that most people with higher mileage are quoting the overhead console while cruising mine reads 22 to 24 mpg. I also feel the ones complaining about poor mileage are on the skinny pedal most often.

Sounds like just what mine is getting. 750 mile round trip doing right at 73 14.6 one way 12.4 the other with a nasty headwind. We are just gonna take it in the shorts with the milage on these new trucks.
I am really looking at some enhancements to mine right now. All legal of course(smog checks for diesels here) to help with this issue. My biggest problem is trying not to void the warranty on it too or to have the EPA police after me My guess is it won't be long till they go after the boxes and programmers on these new truck.

Just found this last night PICC Catalytic Converter. http://www.preignitioncc.com/wjessee/
I love how they tell you that you will never have to change the oil as if the combustion process is the only thing that contaminates the oil and causes it to break down... Yeah... Water condensation.... Heat... Flash off... etc... have NOTHING to do with the oil needing to be changed...

I talked to a guy at a truck dealer yesterday and he was saying that he see's half getting 13 mpg and the other half getting 16-18 mpg and thinks that the new flashes are the reason. Some are 08 and some are 07.5 so that does not matter. I do drive this truck very hard at times so I'm going to make an effert to slow it down on the highways and see what happens. The dealer is going to check everything out Monday so I'll let you know what I find.

MPG with a 6.7L
My experience is as follows:
If I travel at 75 mpg with the cruise set I average about 18 to 20. Since I live in the mountains I experience more variation. I can get 21 plus going over the pass and back but traveling around 65. 55 to 65 seems to be optimal whereas 75 starts to eat into the mileage pretty significantly and can run it down to 18-19.3 pretty easily and that is running empty. With the camper on at 55mpg I can usually get around 15 but the wind resistance goes up substantially.

I drove up to Pa yesterday and at 60-65 mph I was up to almost 19mpg and steadily rising until I hit the large hills and mountains. At that point the mileage steadily dropped to just over 17mpg. As I came back it slowly started rising again s soon as I got out of the hilly areas. I ended up at just under 18 mpg and my overhead was almost dead on. It's funny that the OH was always .5 higher than actual. Now that I put the 285s on without adjusting the speedo it is much more accurate. It usually reads .2 higher than actual with in-town mileage and it is about .1 over on highway miles. I still only have 4200 miles on the truck so it's not even broken in yet. I'm going to be pulling my trailer around for a few days to help break it in quicker. I may even throw the Mustang in it for some added weight......

With the power and troque of the 6.7 engine, with the 6 spd manual trans,I really think that Dodge should have kept the 3.54 gears in the rears. Really how many guys tow full loads 100% of the time, even if you do whats the problem with down shifting to the next lower gear to get up that hill, most of any driving isn't up hills. I just think that Dodge should have kept 3.54 gears with the new exhaust emissions, the power and torque of the 6.7 and the fuel milage would be higher.
