EMS OFf Road Hub Kit

I spent Sunday in a buddy's garage installing the Kit from EMS. Once your remove the old hubs, 45 minutes each, lots of pulling, pounding and penetrating oil.

I have not had a chance to try them yet, it was snowing so bad I needed the 4x4 to get home.

I will post pics as soon as they clear this website.

The kit is on sale now for 1495.00 with free shipping. I have only driven 20 miles home from my buddy's house in a snow storm.

EMS is great to work with!

Just a note I used a 4 1/8" hole cut saw and a drill press to drill out the lug nut cover. From the back side use a die grinder to remove the little tab and make a small depression. Drill a pilot hole then use a hole cut saw from the front side. Slow speed and light pressure. Fits perfect around the new hub and gives a factory like appearance.

Hey guys, just something I think about... If there is a an improvement of about 2 MPG (10%) then at about $3.50 per Gallon (which it is more than this here in CA) then you would need to drive about 80,000 miles to break even with the $1500 price tag... Yes, I know there is less wear and tear and other things, but strictly on efficiency the payback is pretty long depending on your situation...

None-the-less, they are certainly cool and I wish I had them!

I have had the freespin kit from Dynatrac on my 03 DRW for almost 2 years. I did not buy it because of mileage paybacks. I bought it to rid myself of the stupid unit bearings. If you want to talk payback, replace those stupid things a couple of times and you are paid. lol The bonus is: a much nicer steering truck at highway speeds, 2WD low for reversing heavy trailers (seriously, if you have to back up and manoeuvre a heavy 5ver, you will wonder how you did it in high range after this) and no needless wear and tear on front drivetrain components and the piece of mind that you aren't driving around on stupid unit bearings that can fail and leave your stranded in the middle of nowhere without warning.

I tow a 14,000lbs horse trailer. I replaced my 99-1/2 F450 with this truck. I never backed up my trailer without using 2 wheel low.

To park the trailer at home I have a 400 foot driveway that has a tight 90degree turn then another 85 feet up hill to my parking spot. With the F450 dropped it into 2 wheel low and the truck would just idle the trailer all the way back into its spot.

At the rides I go to we usually park in some old pasture, field or on soft grass. I hear a lot of trucks pushing their trailers back into a spot with the engine screaming and the truck barely moving and can only imagine the heat build up in the tranny!

Just installed the B&W turnover ball yesterday and as soon as I get a nicer weather day I will be taking the trailer out for our maiden voyage. I will keep you up to date.

I'm also interested in any MPG improvements along with the ones mentioned above.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

I use this truck exclusively to tow my horse trailer. I will not be putting it on the road till late February. So sorry for the delay but as soon as I get a number I will post it here.
