EGR unplug progress report
EGR unplug progress report
I recently returned from my deer hunt here in Arizona where I logged 599.5 miles on a single tank. A fill up required 29.2 gallons for an average of 20.5 MPG. The trip load consisted of approx 1000-1200 lbs of misc camping and hunting equip. in the bed, none towing. I live in Phoenix and hunted the South rim of the Grand Canyon with elevation change of 2000 to 8000, down to 6000 and then all back again. The truck, a 2007.5 2500 guad cab, 4x4 auto ran flawlessly with the EGR unplugged and the MPG was the best I have ever seen by a long shot. I have about 22K miles now. I have plugged the EGR back in for a free oil change from the dealer, but it gets pulled again.
I feel lucky that my 2007 has responded so well to the unplug. No ideling or surging issues. I have driven the truck approx 1000 miles with the EGR out of action.

I am anxiously awaiting the next fill up on mine so I can calc the milage. I just got the truck back from the dealer after they installed a new turbo. I unplugged the EGR the next day. I've been running a mix of in-town and freeway, including about 150 miles with two dirt bikes and gear in the back of the truck. The overhead is reading mid 18's. I'm hoping for 20 on the hand calc. We'll see.
I'm in Phoenix too, with a 2007, but 2WD.
