Anybody out there that uses their 6.7 for short drives and some longer with camper or trailer. Does this create problems meaning more short drives then pushing it harder.

Beaner,
I use my 6.7 for short drive around town and then sometime for towing and camping. I just unplugged my EGR about 2 tanks ago and have only seen about 1 MPG increase in town, have not towed or highway drove to much yet. I'll let you know what I see soon.

My MPG's went up 3 IMMEDIATELY after unplugging.

I shuttle a lot back and forth from my house to town (about 10 minles....60 MPH) and then idle a lot in town (have HIGH IDLE feature...I use it RELIGIOUSLY....even for short stops) and pull a 31' camper from time to time. It's winterized now so there will be no more heavy pulling until Spring.

I haven't been having any problems.

These trucks DON'T want to idle. Use your High Idle feature if you have it. If you don't, get it enabled.

With all the advice I've been getting here, it's all been spot on. Great site and even better people.

Beaner, not sure if you're necessarily referring to the EGR and such, but I don't have many miles on mine (less than 3K!).

75% of those miles have been towing 10K+ toy hauler. The rest is short trips, idling, all the bad stuff for these trucks. I've had one CEL and they cleaned out the EGR system...

I'm taking the first towing trip since about 8 months this weekend, and anxious to see how it does. I have the G-30 recall done and AV flash.

Just some hints from me:

1. ALWAYS use the exhaust brake.
2. In city or town set auto-stick to 4
3. On highways with traffic (under 55-60) set auto-stick to 5
4. Only on open highway or interstate let it go into 6
5. Use Idle-up feature for any idling

These tips have kept mine CEL free.

With the truck idling in park. Turn the cruise on, then press set. You can stop it by touching the brake pedal or by turning off the cruise. It is a dealer enabled thing but it is possible it is already active.
