whats your opinion
i been reading here about a month i have a 07.5 it has been to dealer about 5-7 times in 26000 miles starting at about 7000 miles last time they replaced dpf, drilled my turbo, desooted intake and tube, wrapped exhaust with insulation to keep o2 sens. hotter, the truck would hardly pull itself, i called the 1-800-gripe# and even talked to a cummins engineer and got nothing but excuses. im guessing this truck has the latest flashes, i unpluged egr about 2-3 weeks ago and did h&s 5 in dpf delete and edge juice about a week ago heres my problem i get a surging idle on a cold start up it seems to be fine once it warms a little it sounds like it is being choked around the neck when this happens i plugged the egr back in one mourning and it seemed to do alright i did not get egr plates with kit he forgot, got them today, do you think the egr butterfly might be the issue. truck seems to do great all other times. truck is awesome, but the problems really suck bad, been a cummins fan for about 10 years, paying 37000$ to be a guinea pig is not right. any input on this idle problem would be appreciated
Mine did that the first couple of times I did a cold start. I disconnected both batteries for about a half hour and then reconnected them. I also started waiting for the 5 dings to complete before starting the truck and all has been fine since. Mine also blew lots of white smoke when it idles bad. I have not seen any smoke ever since....
Try it.
Try it.
The only time I noticed any issues with the unplug is once in a while when the truck is at normal operating temperature and Im returing to an idle, it will run rough but clears after less than one second. It rarely happens but is noticeable. I believe the ecm changes timing for the exaust gasses ( egr ) when there is no engine load. I also think it only happens when the truck is in regen or paused regen. Im not sure if a reflash fixes this or not but I dont see any of the 08 guys posting any negatives to the unplug.
Its best to know for sure what relash level you are at. Did you buy this truck used? Has the G-30 recall been done? I have a 07.5 with no reflashes , or G-30 recall done and when I unplugged the EGR , no issues. Other than a 2.5 MPG increase. Sounds like a SEA FOAM cleaning of the EGR system and Intake/ butterfly is in order. Are you getting any soft codes?
hey guys i had some problems replying. i did the battery disconnect ididnt fix the issue but seem to help it. it seems to have a strong draw down on the voltage meter when this happens it goes for a second or two then alright. i did buy this truck new a little over a year ago. it has been going to the dealer since 7000 miles which i think it got one flash then and another the last time it was in 26000 miles. not sure what flash im on is there any way to tell thought i read that somewhere on here. what is the g-30 recall? the egr shouldnot need cleaned it has only been a couple thousand miles or less since it has been desooted and parts replaced. im not a mechanic but i the butterfly flapping open and closed causing this but why only on cold start up. if you rev it up alittle it seems to do alright too. by the way the cummins engineer i talked to was all for doing the deletes after i told him what people were doing to solve there problems. he said he didnt drive a 6.7 huh imagine that!

The grid heater will draw the amps down when you first start it but if the engine is trying to die out then that will cause the amps to go down too because the engine is slowing down so much.
Have you contacted H&S about this? They have another box you connect to your truck that does away with some of the issues people are having when trying to run a delete kit...
