ECM Codes And experiences so far

Hello everyone I'm new to these forums, I have been reading all the interesting info about the 6.7L and the info is most helpful. I was wondering if someone out there can help me. I checked for codes today and I have p513,and p061a can someone tell me what they are?
Here are some of the things I have noticed since I bought my truck, exhaust brake engaging on its own when off the fuel (switch not on), and delayed deactivation when the switch is on and i'm using it. Engine stumble during light throttle tip in. Engine oil level looks high after sitting the truck overnight. Below 66.f the manifold heater light may not light in the morning. The ETC light sometimes comes on when I engauge the high idle. when idline the truck at low idle the engine get louder(rattlier) and there is a weird tick in the engine. No CEL light ever came on.

Those codes will cause the engine to derate. That alone can make odd noises in the engine. Have any mods? Those can cause those codes as well.

Vzdude do you know what a invalid skim key means?, and I have no mods. How do you correct the p061A code?

The skim key is the antitheft chip put in the head of the key. As for the P061A - here is the diagnostic chart........

P061A-ETC LEVEL 2 TORQUE PERFORMANCE
For a complete wiring diagram Refer to Section 8W.

Theory of Operation
This algorithm monitors the control system to ensure that the fueling output is consistent based on the operating conditions. The ECM will light the ETC lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and fails. During this time the customer may experience an engine derate or engine running rough. The ECM will turn off the ETC lamp once the diagnostic passes in one drive cycle.

When Monitored:
Engine running.

Set Condition:
Varies with operation. Verifies the control system fueling output is consistent based on the operating conditions.

Possible Causes
SOFTWARE REVISION/TSBS
OTHER DTCS
COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR
INTAKE MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR
INTAKE MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR
BRAKE SWITCH
ENGINE OR FUEL MODIFICATIONS THAT EXCEED OEM SPECIFICATIONS
ECM

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

Diagnostic Test
1. SOFTWARE REVISION/TSBS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check TSBs for software releases.

Are there any new software releases?

Yes
Reflash the ECM.

No
Go To 2

2. OTHER DTCS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ignition on, engine not running.
With the scan tool, read DTC's.

Are there any other DTCs?

Yes
Repair all other DTC's first.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

No
Go To 3

3. COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the scan tool, read the Freeze frame data.

Is the coolant temperature reading uncharacteristically low for the operating conditions?

Yes
Replace Coolant Temperature Sensor
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

No
Go To 4

4. EXHAUST MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the scan tool, read the Freeze frame data.

Is the exhaust manifold pressure sensor reading higher than intake manifold pressure reading (boost pressure)?

Yes
Replace the Exhaust Manifold pressure sensor.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

No
Go To 5

5. INTAKE MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the scan tool, read the Freeze frame data.

Is the intake manifold pressure (boost pressure) sensor reading lower than the exhasut manifold pressure reading?

Yes
Replace the Intake Manifold pressure sensor.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

No
Go To 6

6. BRAKE SWITCH

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using a scan tool monitor brake switch position while cycling the brake pedal.

Is the brake switch status changing correctly?

Yes
Go To 7

No
Replace the brake switch or repair the wiring.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

7. ENGINE OR FUEL MODIFICATIONS THAT EXCEED OEM SPECIFICATIONS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An Engine or Fuel modification that exceeds OEM specifications can affect the parameters that this diagnostic monitors.
Any device/software that modifies the values reported by any of the Cummins actuators/sensors could fail this diagnostic.
Any device that puts a high parasitic load on the engine could also cause this diagnostic to fail.

Is there evidence of Engine or Fuel modifications that exceed OEM specifications?

Yes
Return vehicle to customer.

No
Replace ECM.

However, after re-reading the post I would be willing to bet there is a problem with the exhaust brake switch or wiring.

vzdude, good info, do you think the p513 shows up whn the engine fails to fire, I mean by that is, when it was a week old I pulled up to the garage and shut ti off than 2 min later I went to start it and all it would do is roll over, I turned the key off and tried it again and is started, my bros 6.7 does the same thing as well as my buddies 06 5.9 and I thought about it an I beleave it has something to do with the anti theft, whatta think. also I had a new key made 2 weeks ago and it works, maybe the code was ste during the key programming?

That's possible. The 513 is totally separate from th P061A.

My mileage dropped from 17 to 14 mpg.

I just checked for codes and now I have P061A and P0513.

~ 2 months ago, I had the flash update.

So the P061A is torque level 2 performance....

The only mod I've done is a S&B air cleaner. In the diagnostic chart "Is there evidence of Engine or Fuel modifications that exceed OEM specifications?"
Would this be engine modification?

Any suggestions before I call and schedule an appointment?

Thanks
Keith

There is a new reflash update, I would try that first.
