The truck deffinately sounds like a basket case and a half. But as others have noted it would make a great parts veh. If your looking for a working truck to put on the road I would look elsewhere.

Your first impression is usually the best.
Run.
Far away.
Who knows what shape the higher-priced parts are in? Intercooler could be shot, pump on its way out, etc.

Just to give you an idea I just bought an 89 cab chassis with a decent mason dump for $300 with no engine. Has the 5 speed in it, frame is not rusted, cab is actually decent. If you decide not to grab it, PM me because I might be looking for another parts truck.

It's a parts truck dude. Guaranteed up where you are that the brake lines and fuel lines are on their way out also if the the rest of the truck is that bad. Chances are that the interior is beat.
If you want to work something out on halfers on a grand ,and there are parts you want to keep, let me know. I could use a lot off the front. Have trailer -will travel :-) . might be interested in whole thing if you pass on it. (finders fee always paid)
I humbly disagree that a rebuildable, early , VE pumped, cummins is worth what one member stated when we see complete, good running ones go for that all the time. who knows whats going on inside and engine with low/no oil ? crossy

It must be a regional thing.
A 1st Gen. will fetch as much around here, as a comparable later engine.
Most, around here, prefer the 1st Gen.
If they are that cheap/plentiful in New Jersey, I need to bring the trailer up there and do some shopping.

Thats the thing, up here you get people who just don't want to be bothered. I paid $1200 for a decent 92 W250 needed brake lines and such, but It starts, runs and goes down the road and stops when I want it too. PO had just done a trans not too long ago, brakes all the way around where put on 2 years ago before the truck was parked.
$800 for a running early 91 W250 out of NY for parts.
$300 for that lastest one an 89 with a mason dump and no engine, 5 speed.
