it is the exzat same filter bos as the 5.9 i am running a K&N and cannot see the difference in design. a big difference in design from factory in the 5.9 and the 6.7 the thicker filter was to cut down on turbo wine from what I under stand and if you go ewith an after market filter you might see a 1/2 to 2 mpg difference the biggest advantage is a life time filter with aftermarket one time 75.oo or 28.oo every 10 to 15000 do the math.

The stock airbox between a 5.9 and 6.7 are slighty different. The 5.9 box is square inside. The 6.7 box has two straight and two wavy sides inside the box. It's possible to put a 5.9 K&N filter in a 6.7 box, but it takes some "fanaggerin" and it rubs on two sides. At least this is how it is/was on mine.

I've used an AirRaid drop-in and currently the new style K&N for the 6.7. I used yahoo! shopping to find the lowest price with lowest shipping. Part# is E-784. I paid around $73 incl shipping. A little more whistle is about the only difference I've noticed. Beats buying the stock ones every 8,000 miles.

I've been using an Amsoil nanofiber 100K mile drop-in for the past 35K miles or so and am happy with it. It was initially listed as for a CR 5.9L but they may have a 6.7L moniker on it now as well.

Different air flow changes the fueling strategy which will lead to more soot.
