Cold start, high idle??

It was about 25* this morning and I started my truck to let it warm up and defrost the windshield, with the EB on. After about 2 minutes the idle automatically picked up to 1,000 rpm when I got in it and pressed the brake it went back to 800 rpm. I drove down the road about 1/2 mile to feed my other horses and after a couple minutes picked up again, while I chatted with the neighbor for a couple minutes and it died back down on its own. I have the 6 spd man tranny and have to send it in for the O2 sensor recall and the latest flash and oil change, I was also going to have them do the high idle so I can ground out the certain pin and use that feature. I was just wondering more or less if the truck is programed to idle up when it is cold or what.

yeah, the trucks have had that feature for a long time.. If its cold they will kick up idle by themselves. normally has to be a bit colder than 25 tho.. Mine never did it unless it was like 0 or lower.

Just discovered the same 'feature' yesterday...scared the crap out of me 'cause' I already had to spend a bucket of money on a different issue. Temp dropped to 34 overnight.......the truck started normally and I warmed it up for a couple of minutes and drove to the Donut shop close by to grab a coffee on my way to work. I left the truck running and sure enuff....when I came out it was churning away at 1000 RPM......performance exhaust sounds pretty nice from that angle...lol!

It did it again last night when I picked it up after work and again this morning....I'm real glad to have someone confirm it is normal behavior.

I also encountered the high idle on my 2007.5 this week as well (had a 305/555 2003 that also had high idle).

After it idled up, I went back outside and engaged the exhaust brake.....ol' Blue kinda whistled like a dust buster with a low battery.

glad to know it is normal, my '97 and previous '01 didn't have it. I still want to get the high idle feature enabled so if the wife gets cold at the rodeo or somewhere she can get warmed up with out my truck getting screwed up. Has anyone else had it done on the manual's yet. Iknow there was a post a while back about it, I will have to find it so I can find what pin to ground. Thanks to all and Happy Thanksgiving!

just go to the dealer and they can activate the high idle feature with STAR and you don't have to ground anything out.... then its all controlled by your cruise control.....

you do have to ground a wire on the manual trans. i have done it, and written about it on several threads. if you need to know which wire and where it is, let me know.
