clutch hydraulics
I am trying to remedy and diagnose a situation that may be clutch related. I was told to check the level of clutch hydraulic fluid. Can someone tell me how to get started. I believe you pull a plug under the truck and the fluid level should be at the plug or just a little below. Any and all details on this procedure would be helpful!
Whats the problem? Clutch master cyl is under the hood on the right ( facing the truck) on the firewall. If your having the same issue as every other manual trans truck hopefully we can remidy it. Is it everytime you push the clutch in the darn truck just wants to rev up and has no power, almost like something disconnects?
Yep, looks like a small brake master cylinder next to the brake master.
What is going on. These master slaves are pretty easy to diagnose, usually either they work or they don't. When mine went out on my 99 the clutch went right to the floor.
If you end up needing a new one don't buy stock, get a Southbend master slave kit, much nicer and adjustable

Everything works fine until you are accelerating and at about 1800 it instantly jumps to 2200 and then back down to 1800. It mainly only does it in 4th,5th, and really mainly 6th. this problem does not happen everyday. It is just like you pushed in the clutch while driving down the highway but you never let off the gas. And only for a split second. thanks
I was just saying to check the fluid as one of the easy/no cost checks.
You most likely need a new clutch, but I don't want you to have the clutch changed only to find the same problem down the road caused by a small leak in the clutch hydraulics.
I agree that everytime I've seen a set of clutch hydraulics fail it completely disables the clutch, so most likely that is not the problem, but its so easy to check I thought you'd want to see.

Not a problem with the clutch!! When you let off the accelerator and depress the clutch the fuel rail has to bleed the pressure and it does this by dumping the fuel to the injectors. Like when you turn off the water hose and still get sprayed when you throw the nozzle down. The common rail system is the culprit but all of them do it. To drive around it just feather off the throttle before pushing the clutch instead of dropping the thottle. These trucks are not sports cars and aren't designed to be driven as such. The auto's do a great job because they shift under full fuel.

I just got mine in today. Flywheel, clutch kit and upgraded hydraulics. Give Lary a call here at the store. He has something worked out with S/Bend. Beat all the internet deals I could find.

I'm pretty sure the service department will stick to telling you 12,000 mile limit on your clutch. I didn't have trouble until I put my Quad XZT on. It started doing it instantly in 6th. Then developed it in 5th. Took the XZT off, and now it won't do it. I'll be doing or having it done soon. I can't wait to get a look at the flywheel and pressure plate. I read other guys posts that even with the same issues, their parts looked fine. No evidence of slipping. Oh well, after this I shouldn't have to worry any more.

Yep I thought it was when you were shifting gears, my bad, your clutch cant handle the power so it is starting to slip. My 97 did that every time I did a power upgrade until I put a strong clutch in it. Third time is the charm!!
