Bypass Oil Filtration System

If anyone is interested, here is the web link for OilGuard Bypass filter systems.

www.oilguard.com

They now have a kit made to fit the 6.7L it is part number EPS-20-DC-OSV and is $329.00.

This will filter your oil down to 1 micron whereas the normal factory inline oil filter typically filters down to only 20 microns or larger.

With a bypass system like this, along with periodic oil testing, they say you can easily go 4 to 5 times longer than the normal oil change interval. I've seen reports of over the road trucks going up to 200,000 miles without replacing the oil, but I don't think I would ever be that brave with my own truck.

Looks like they copied the AMSOIL Bypass system. I currently have one that looks the exact same on my truck from AMSOIL. Takes about 30 minutes to install.

You have to change the filter on the bypass periodically. So when you put that new filter on there you also have to add new oil. They call it "makeup oil". When you add makeup oil in there it replenishes fresh oil additives in the older worn oil thereby extending it's life. If you're filtering down to 1 micron and changing your filters as you should be and anaylisis is telling you the oil is still good to run then it's still good you don't have to be "brave" about anything. Run it as long as you can. Oil filtration down to 1 micron is exceptionally good!

The one question I can't find an answer for on any of the bypass filter websites is, how often should you change the filter on the bypass system? For the oil guard systems, the filters are $24 each. If I have to change that every 5K to 8K miles, factoring in the $329 to buy the system, it may be less expensive to just stick with the stock filter system. I can get 20 micron filters for $8 and just change oil at the 15K mark.

On the Amsoil website for their system, they recommend 40k change the filter under normal use. That was for the Ea100 IIRC. Another note, I can't remember where I read/heard this, but I think you are still supposed to change the full flow at 10k.
