bad ticking problem
bad ticking problem
i have a one ton dually 4x4 with the 6.7 and a 6 speed manual. the truck now has 7300 miles on it and it has been back to the dealer 8 times for the same noise. they have replaced the turbo, flywheel, catylic converter, particular filter and 1 injector and tested all the other injectors. they have also checked the valves. the truck after all of this still has a ticking noise comming from the front side of the motor. yesterday when i picked it up they want me to drive it for a week and see if the noise goes away which i dont see it happening. they said if it doesnt then a dodge engineer is going to come down and look at my truck. i told the dealer that i think its a lemon and he kinda agreed with that or thinks they should buy it back and i agree. you dont spend almost 40k on a truck to have it down more than going down the road. does anyone have any ideas what it could be or what actions yall think i should take?
You might want to read your lemon law book. You might have a case. Keep close track of how much time it is in the shop ,and for what. I read a little about it in the book but i forgot the details.
my truck ticks as well as my bros, i'm not concrened with the noise, there is lots of warrenty on the engine, other than it being annoying i believe it's the nature of the beast. there is a thread somewhere in here that folks talked about this "tick" my buddie has a 5.9 and his ticks the same, i'm not sure how loud your tick is but i've heard mine ticking and my bros and i'm not a bit worried. I know this doesn't help but i thought I would pass on the info.
I'm not a lawer but I had some problems with my old 2nd gen and had done some research on the lemon law and I would have to say that your truck definately would qualify as a LEMON. California Lemon Law states that the dealerships must be given a reasonable number of opportunities to repair a vehicle. The law does not require any specific number of repair visits. Typically, four visits for the same problem will qualify, but, depending on the defect, fewer visits may suffice.
Gents,
I ran across this in another forum. Sounds similar to issues others are having. Take a read: http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...ad.php?t=43549

thank you for the replies. im now just debating on wether or not to start the lemon law process or give them another chance to get it right. but after several trips back and forth for the same problem and still no fix im just tired of messing with it.
My 2004 Hemi Durango has a tick in it as well. They call it the Hemi Tick.
Its in the lifters. I guess the oil pressure does not inflat the lifters correctly and it results in a tick. Its at idle when you hear it. The dodge dealer told me if it got worst they would replace the lifters. Weak Springs in the lifters.
A fuel knock in a diesel would sound a little harder than what I have. One injector putting more fuel in than necessarry. Compression can't burn all the fuel resulting in a knock, fuel knock.
