Any 6.7 4x4 owners remove the front DS for better mileage
My truck is a street queen and I was just wondering if pulling the front driveshaft in the summertime would give any better fuel mileage. Has anybody done this with hand calculated improvements in mileage?
Well, I'm stuck at around 13 mpg in my daily driving routine so I may do that. Of course I would keep it, and the required tools, in the truck just in case I needed it....
without removing the part that transfres the power from the pumpkin to the wheels I don't think anything would be gained. The front diff is open so as long as it is disengaged there is no load on those wheels. There are kits out there to put locking hubs on but they are awsome expensive and not really designed for fuel savings. I would love that kit to use 4 low when backing the trailer around but I have not had nearly the need like I did with the old 5 spd

LOL!! I just laugh all the time at all the "Clubs" here and at other sites. I made all those up (except the Megacab club) but if you guys do decide to start a "Goofball" club you may want to make me the president....

I run from ATL back to LA without the front shaft just as an experiment before I had the hubs on. I noticed no diff in fuel mileage. I did pick up nearly 2mpg average with the hubs however.
