When I was looking at new trucks I test drove a new Dodge 6.7 auto. I really liked the engine and tranny it pulled hard and I really liked the new 6sp transmission with the Ebrake. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I had my 99 Dodge for 10yrs and 140000 miles and for the most part it was a great truck I loved it BUT.......I had 3 VP's replaced before it went out of warranty and 1 after so think about how trivial a CEL is compared to your truck sitting idling and nothing else. So just how far have trucks come. I think anytime you can Drive! your truck to the dealership to b--ch it's not so bad.

I like the power of the 6.7. (07 w/6 auto) I pull a 37.5 ft 5th wheel. Mileage could be better. From Williston, ND to Payette, ID got 11 mpg. On the return trip I was at 14 mpg till I got to Billings, MT and hit a east wind and running 70 went down to 9 mpg. Jay

Just bought a new 2009 6.7 and its significantly improved over the the 2006 5.9. So quiet I don't know its running. Loads of power so I'm not waisting money on mods, at least not yet. Fuel economy is about the same with only 500 miles on the ODO. That will probably change after I install larger tires. I ain't lookin back.

A great thread going here, good reading. I have a 03 SO stock with 78k on the odo. I drive the truck less than 10k a year now. It does all I need OK but thinking of going to the 09 for a great deal. If I do it will take me 10+ years to hit 100k miles. My biggest load is 8000 in TT for vacation. Just trying to decide if the $20k difference is worth it. Could just put the hubs and other mods on the 03 and keep it but it will never have a 6speed trans or EB or the HP. Decisions, help.

The 6.7 in my 2008 is great, with the SMARTY. Without, not so much - I can really feel the difference in pickup and acceleration. After a year only have 6400 miles ( due to a six month vacation in Iraq) and figure the mileage is going to get better as the engine seasons. I really started to like the truch once I had a 4.5 inch leveling kit installed. The truck sits level from front to back now.

I loved my truck stock except for the emmisions issues and mpg. However, now I feel it is even better all around.

FUEL Line Problem?
You'd have to pay me to own a 6.7, I would never own one. My dads is just a POS. Randomly dies while driving, for no reason. One day it started, sputtered like crazy, wouldn't rev, would of been stranded if not for my good old 5.9. Started the next day fine, no codes or anything. Terrible mileage. Exhaust brake is nice, 6 speed auto is better then the old 4, but it's still a auto, that is terrible to say the least.
Can't think of anything good to say except for the exhaust brake, because there is nothing. The emissions is a joke, so much crap under the hood to deal with.
My dad and I bought our trucks pretty much the same time, my 5.9 had 55k miles on it then, not ONE lick of trouble, while his was new, and has nothing but problems.
I know I would never buy a truck that is going to sit at the dealer all the time.
The 6.7 is a mistake that never should of gotten on the road.

Did you ever figure out what it was? Anyone else have any ideas? I called the dealer and they didn't sound like they had any idea what I was talking about.

This is a good thread. I think all of them are good. The 6.7 even the duramax, and the powerstroke, for most people. When you see people pulling heavy, you ussually see cummins in front of it. The thing I look at is the dealer visits. I hear about a lot of dealer visits for most new trucks. Its strange....I bought my 12 v with 150k miles. i dont know how many dealer visits it had before I got it, but its NEVER been back. Its not perfect,in fact pretty beat dont now with 250k miles. One sweet engine though. Although its far from stock, by my own doing, and rebuilt now. Besides, my own doing, though its been non operatable in the last 5 years for 1 day that was a failure. Thats pretty good.
For 99.9% of everyone, they are all great trucks. Remember the 6.2 non turbo? the 6.5 chevy? the gas 454 days? I remember when 4 mpg was a good thing.

Exellent thread; I am in the market for a new truck. I currently have a Ford 6.0L diesel I am sick of fixing it and wondering if it will start when I turn the key. I don't want fords new engine in fact I was so fed up I was planning on going back to a gas rig. I think there will be some pretty good deals here pretty quick on the '09's with the 2010 out now. I am in southern OK any good dealers around here that you guys have experience with. I have had Fords since the '80's but the 6.0 is the deal breaker and GM is not an option period.

My 2008 was bullet proof.
Oil changes every 3K and regularly serviced filters and diffs. Tires every 15K.
Never had a lick of a problem. Worked it hard in the ranch's 4 x 4 back country hauling horses, livestock and Kubotas 80% of time, town 20%.

I am looking at the 2010 but the discounts on the '09s are very tempting. I guess it is basically the same truck but I kinda like the looks of the new one and a full cc lb I am definatly jonesing for as I already have a f250 cc lb but we wont mention the power plant

We wouldn't say anything, most of us want one like that anyway.
