6.7L/68rfe/350hp driving impressions!
Well, I got my first 6.7/68rfe in this morning and took it on an extensive test drive. I am very impressed! This combo is far superior to the 5.9/48re. I am not a drag racer, but from a stand still, using the manual shift mode, this 4x4 mega cab got rubber through the first four gears with the right foot planted. The manual shift mode works flawlessly, and wroks very well on the downshift with the engine brake. Also, for all you guys who are always complaining about fuel mileage, this thing with a 3.73 axle ratio will run 70mph @ 1,775rpms. That should help a lot on fuel mileage. Holler if you have any questions.

Luke;
Thanks for your in put, your impression with the MC 4X is very close to what I felt about the 2500 QC SB 4X I drove the other day. Makes me want to trade my 03 for a 07.

Thanks Luke.
Can you do a test vs the Aisen trans? Like to get your input on shift points, smoothness, exhaust brake etc. Basically, ignoring the PTO which trans do you prefer.

I have spent a lot of time in the 6.7/Aisin combo's and it is a little different. With the 68rfe in tow/haul mode it does not automatically downshift for you, you have to manually downshift it with the gear selector switch on the gear shift. The 68rfe will run in 6th gear in Tow/Haul, the Aisin will not. The Aisin doesn't have the manual shift option, but it does shift down on its own in tow haul. Feels to me like the engine brake works just a little better on the Aisin, it feels like it wants to hold back a little harder. Both of them are great transmissions.

Luke, I guess this is along the subject line, but in the next few years I'd like to get a new Dodge, my wife is fighting me about the trans because she doesn't want to learn the manual. I want the manual because I had an '01 auto and NO ONE wanted to buy it because it wasn't a manual. I realize you've JUST gotten them in, but do you think I'd need to worry about the auto going out way before a manual would? I'd only be towing lighter loads around maybe a max of 60 times a year. Just wondering

Off subject a bit, but Diesel Power (I know) had an article about the Bully dog truck 6.7l C&C making something like 480hp and ~900tq. I'm just wondering what bombing is going to do to the particulate filter and expensive new sensors and EGR. Time will tell.

The difference between your 01' with the old tired 47re and the newer 48re that replaced it was night and day. When we came out with the 48re our diesel/auto sales went from about 5% of diesel sales to nearly 50%. These new transmissions are so far advanced over the 48re it isn't funny. I predict within 3 years manuals will account for less than 25% of my diesel sales. I would not worry one bit about buying one of the new automatics. I feel very confident in them.

Personally, having driven several of these and towed with them also, I can't see why anybody would touch them. Dodge has finally made a combo that is a very capable puller right out of the box. I guess I am old fashioned.
