6.7L/68rfe/350hp driving impressions!
#32
I'm not familiar with the 68rfe but is that automatic? If so, I have to disagree 100% with being able to spin the tires. I drove the new 6.7 and it couldn't spin the tires to save it's life. I wonder if it would even spin doing a power brake. Luke mentioned using the manual shift mode so I assume it's an auto. If it's a manual then I apologize. If it's an auto then someone's smoking something other than the tires.

You must have driven a CC, because the 2500 QC 4X with 6.7L and the new 68RFE auto I drove would spin the tires. So I disagree with you 100%.

Ok, I must be lying then I guess. Truely, being able to spin the tires is not a very good measure of a truck to me, but that is what it did. I don't care what anybody thinks, it offers better performance than a 5.9/48re any day.

I drove a 07 Mega cab with the 5.9 - 48re right after and it was much slower than the 6.7. No responce with floored until the boost came up, an exact oposite of the 6.7.
I believe the 6.7 will be strong trucks. I have one of the first G-56's with the so called plastic gears which seems to be just fine after 50K.

Smooth as an "Allison"?
Hey Luke, does the 68RFE shift as smooth as an "Allison"? That's the only thing I like better about my parents d-max, the tranny feels as smooth as a CVT.

Aftwer hearing all of this I kind of wished I had waited to get the 6.7L. I had heard it was going to be a dog( lower HP and TQ then it has now) with bad mpg's. But I guess they will have any and all bugs worked out by the time I need one in 6 years

I sell both Dodges and Chevy's, and personally, I think both the 68rfe and the Aisin are smoother shifting than the Duramax/Allison.

I think all the trannys shift extremely smooth. the Ford TS takes a little while to learn the shift strategy and it can shift a little harsh until then, but the updated ts is real smooth. We now have all 3 truck companies with great autos, witch is great, competition is good.

Cut Luke some slack, Spinning tires never won a race OR made for great gas milage. I want HP or should I say torque at the rear tires when I have the 5vr and want to pull away from some peterbilt or when I am going up a 15% incline and don't want the trans to hunt to keep it at 70. I think the 6.7 with the 68rfe that I drove with 15 miles will keep up with my 04.5 with the quad box and 40,000 miles, so what will it be like with 40,000? I will bet anyone here that in the next year there will be bombs for this truck and as all drag racers will tell you there is NO substitute for cubic inches except for cubic money!!!.
