I read 5 different forum sites and also have not read anything bad about the 68rfe, just the opposite, rave reviews, some people just like to stir the pot which really is to bad as it confuses people who are sincerely looking for information. If you don't experience it yourself you shouldn't really be posting on serious discussions, some people just like to get their post count up or see themselves in print.

Right, but keep in mind the fuel injection they used back in those days had nothing in common with what exists today other than the name. As I recall a 327 w FI on the old Corvettes actually had less HP than the same engine with a 4 bbl carb.

Look at how much the injection systems have changed on Cummins engines in just the last 10 years.

I knew they had air bags back then or even earlier (didn't Saab invent them in the late 50's?) but they weren't mandatory and they were a very expensive option.

I have one of those too, in the form of my wife smacking my arm from the passenger seat when I exceed a predetermined speed.

I love my 6.7. I had the opportunity at both the 6.7 and the 5.9. It all came down to the tranny option and e-brake option for me. In all I am very happy with my decision. I now have over 18,000 miles on it, and am about to add an edge with attitude, and a exhaust top secret thing. HAHAHA Then I will report back.

I just want to add that I respect anything that Scotty and John P. say, and they know that. I too want info on both engines. I love to learn.

the new autos will down shift on the road and hold redline for about 30 seconds screaming, my brothers shakes really bad at take off and they seem to have trouble finding there gear with a big load, i have seen this in about 5 diffrent trucks and they all have things that just dont seem right, dodge rocks but i wont trust these new autos for very long! just an opinion!

agreed!!!!! It does shake at take off with big load and it does like to redline for a few seconds, not 30 though. It also has a big slippage factor when downshifting. I believe its more to do with a cheap TC. The trannys are pretty stout from what I had heard.

Its all a new redesign with Mercedez Benz Engineering. As this truck was meant to be a tow vehicle, alot of manufacturs are also leaning towards the comfortable, family type ride which both of them together dont make sense. Im about to drop my pan in a few more miles to get its first look at 35k with nothing but towing 18-25k pounds only, NEVER EMPTY. I will start a new thread then tellin my opions.

Again, I think the shifting and slippage are due to crappy TC's and bad programming for comfortableniss. But, ya never know. If I see some nasty deposits all over bottom of pan, i am gonna have analysis done and probably put a towing TC in if they even make them yet. Possibly VB too

My first impressions of the 68rfe is it is very smooth shifting. I now have 456 miles one the truck so I'm an expert, right? Anyway, theres a bighill near my house which I got going 55 at in 6th gear and put on the cruise. No LOad. The truck cruised right up the hill not shifting from 6th and never budged from 55 but the turbo did spool up.

Anyway, my first impressions of the truck are very good. 15.4 Mpg on the first 441 miles of 80% towed and 20% in town.

I'm very excited about the truck right now. My brother has the 5.9 with the manual trans (2007). I really can't tell much of a difference. His goes up the same hill in 6th no problem. Mine seems a little quieter. Ride is about the same.

I'll post some pics this weekend.

Mike

Dang, that's pretty fancy for that era but for some reason I think that airbag would scare me instead of reassure me .

I test drove a new 6.7. I then put my tail between my legs and went back and bought a 2003. I could not afford new. I would like to bash the new trucks, but I am afraid the jealousy would show through. I loved the 6 speed automatic, the EB and the power. I love my 5.9, and its fuel mileage, but I hate the 4 speed automatic.

the 6.7 is a greate truck right up to the mpg if you have owned cumm. trucks you know that they are the best power and mpg hands down .the said part is dodge counted on that and said nothing dif. with the 6.7 and to me that is faults advertising .and if all the guys and gals that bought one would get to gether and make them make it right i might sart having a little faith in people again.
