2008 check gauges

New to the forum, My grandson bought a 2008 1 ton crew cab, 6.7, 4 wheel drive. The light comes on about 10 sec. after cranking, it chims 3 times. I changed the filter and cleaned the EGR valve. Can anyone PLEASE help with this??? I have never had a diesel or a Dodge. I can fix it, if I just had a idea what to do. I put my code reader, no codes. There is no power loss.

Thanks!!!

Steven

Does the overhead EVIC state anything on it? What lights are showing on the DASH such as the lightening bolt or such? What level of fuel is in the fuel tank; is the dash showing a low fuel light? All of these will cause you a chime and a check engine light on an 08 truck.

We also need to know has the truck ever been modified by anyone and are there mods on the truck now? The DPF could be full also so this may cause you a chime and tell you to check gages.

It did say perform service, I changed the oil and filter, cleared that. No other lights, after cranking a few seconds the check gauges light comes on and it chims 3 times. 3/4 tank fuel. Stock as far as I know. I have noticed at times the volt gauge will get low and take a little bit to come back up, the battery post need to be cleaned, I'm doing that this morning, will put the meter on it and make sore it is charging OK. I don't drive it much, we kinda repossessed it from him, another story. When I cut the grass I let it set and run for a few min when I move it just to keep it up. Thanks so much for replying back.

Do you know if I take it to the dealer, I know there will be a charge, can they put it on the machine and tell me exactly what it is. I can fix it, I just don't know what or where. I don't want to try to sell it with this light on.

Thanks Jim!!

You said you changed the filter, which filter? did you reset by stepping on brake 2 times and gas pedal 2 times then turn key off?

Yes, I changed the air filter and the one on top of the motor. I just cleaned the battery cables, the one going across the front to the drivers side battery was a little loose. Left the ground cables off for 1 hour, put them back on, cranked it, about 5 seconds the check gauge light came on again, 3 chims. I put the volt meter on it, charging 14.14 volts to both batteries. I'm sure it isn't hard to fix these trucks, but when you don't know what to fix it's a different story. I did reset it. Thanks both of you for replying, I just don't know which way to go or what to look at.
I cleaned toe EGR valve, it had a little carbon on it, is there a way to check if that motor is working??
I have a code reader, no codes.

Thanks, BigIron70, I read the files you sent, will do what they say and see what happens. I hate putting this thing in the shop and handing them a blank check. Thanks again!!!

I took the truck to the Dodge dealer, $315 later they tell me the alt is bad, it is charging but not communicating with the computer, something about a diode being bad. Has anyone heard anything like this??? Please help. I would hate to fight world war 3 getting it off and find out it could be something simple. Thanks In advance!!!
