Will this engine overtake 6.0 and Duramax?
Will this engine overtake 6.0 and Duramax?
Im interested in gettng a 2004 or 2005 diesel truck with a 6speed tranny. I know the older cummins is the king of power, but it seems that these new engines ( new powerstroke and duramax) are making big numbers with chips, exhaust, intake. And the cummins is falling behind. Will the cummins be able to overtake them in the future with just chips, exhaust, intake. Or will it need injectors and bigger turbo to reign supreme again?
As you can tell i love power just like you guys.
Im just tryin to decide what truck to get.
Thanks.

Actually the Cummins for 04 is making 325hp and 600ftlb of torque which , I believe, is more than Ford or Chevy. Do a couple of mods and you are up to 400hp and 800ftlb of torque easily...
And as far as mods go, it all just depends on how much $$$ you have to waste, I mean spend on your truck!
There are lots of fast diesel trucks of all makes out there and it usually comes down to who spent the most $$$ on theirs.....

The power is important, but I would also look at dependability. I'm sure somewhere out there on the Cyber Highway is a good comparison in regards to recalls, returns for repairs, etc.
Someone here may know where it is.

That will get you the repair stuff for Ford.

And that will get you GM stuff. Do your own comparisons, see which one suits you best, which is most reliable, which is easiest to bomb, cheapest to bomb, and go from there. Have fun, drive safe, brush your teeth.

here is someone's experiance with a bombed dodge...

From what I have heard the duramax is a great engine with the simple mods. The 6.0 is gettin a lot of power as well, but those things are havin problems stock and i hear the 6 speed with it makes it no fun to drive. The cummins has proved itself for along time to be able to hold up to some "bombing" but does it still have enough to hold of these new engines?
I think so, the biggest limitation to the new Cummins is the wimpy stock turbo and fairly weak fuel system. Luckily these are rectified quite easily with a fuel system kit from DD & turbo upgrade and you're into the low 500s and over 1000 ft/lbs torque with a box and injectors. Drivability is excellent and so is reliability/durability
I know the DMax and 6-liter can put down some good numbers but I am certain you cannot tow with increased HP near as well as you can with the Cummins (once you get a better turbo). The DMax and PSD make great stoplight racers but they can't put the coals to the fire like a Cummins!
