6000 mile duramax w/blown engine
6000 mile duramax w/blown engine
Just thought Id share this with everyone. Back in July a tour came through the amphitheatre I work and had one of their trucks break down. They took it into a dealer the day after the show..........it just got done today.
The truck was a brand new 2004 duramax automatic, only 6000 miles on it. They took it in b/c is was blowing coolant everywhere.......had to have the entire longblock replaced for a total cost of $12,800. We picked it up today and are going to have to drive it down to Florida to return it.
Best part, ran it against my brand new 600 and definately smoked it

Torque is a wonderful thing!
yea, it was definately my 600 that smoked the chevy.
I thought that the duramaxes were pretty much over their teething problems.......wonder what it is that caused the problem. I know the tour used it as a tow vehicle but only for a small vendor stand
Mustve been pretty bad though to replace the entire longblock

Yea the chevy sure would run around the 600. I had the smack laid down on me with my 99 cummins. It was sure beefed up, and a stock max with a fine looking lady driving made me look stupid. Oh well. I guess I pushed it to hard , and it went KABOOM!!!!!!
So I traded. HEHEHE

piping that replaces the factory intake piping from the airbox to the turbo with no scilencer there. [most are 4" mandrel bend pipe and a rubber elbow] you can make your own out of some piping avalable from airflow systems inc... [or other truck shop supplier]
Just to let everyone know. Against my advice and my Dad's (we both have cummins12 and24 valves), my father in law bought a new duramax. After 25,000 he can't even get it to start. But he said it rides so much better than the dodge. Well, they told him he can't get his truck back until end of october, they've already had it for 2 weeks. He needs all new injectors and ..... All in all, he's trying to get them to buy it back so he can go get a dodge!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have the heart to say I TOLD YOU SOO!!
Guy here at work went through the same thing with his new 03 Duramax. had to do without the truck for 2 months. I bought my truck to work with. Riding smooth is for 1/2 tons. Plus whenever my neighbor brings his HD over to the house he drags his transfer case going across the field to the back pasture. I use to drive GM trucks for 20 years but when it came time for a diesel to pull the horses with I started hanging out at all of the various diesel sites. The Cummins is the most trouble free of all. And the issues they do have are very small and easily fixed in comparison to the PSD and Max. In 152,000 miles all I've had to buy for my truck was a MAP sensor, and 2 lift pumps. The stock auto now has that many miles on it and is still hanging in but I do have a new 89% DTT tranny done and ready to be installed. As well as a big pile of parts to increase smiles per gallon .
i dont know what the problem is with the trucks you guys are driving but i have yet to be out run by a stock dmax or a stock psd. best dyno was 221 on the rollers. 3 d-maxs and i know they were trying my 90 ctd was a full sec. quicker on an 1/8 mi track. if it aint got a chip it mite as well stay home. now my question is what is going on. i know my truck aint the fastest thing out there but something is wrong somewhere .
