My radio worked this afternoon, so it must've just been frozen.
As far as mileage is concerned, I know that mine went up after some use. What they say about the mileage going up the more you drive it is true. Presently mine is down a bit because of the winter fuel mix, but my highway mileage at 70 (empty) has increased from an initial 17.1 to 20.2 (now down to around 19.0 from winter fuel/temps). I'm pretty happy with this. My 6.5 never did this well mileage wise. I'm convinced the 600 could do better, though, with a straight pipe exhaust, BHAF, and some sort of chip that'll advance the fuel timing (since it's retarded for emissions purposes from the factory). When my warranty expires on the drivetrain in another 83,000 miles, I'll make these mods. In the mean time, no way I'm going to do anything that will risk me voiding that warranty.

Procrastinator,
I had the flash done and my mileage improved. I'm happy with my mileage as it's much better than what I was getting with my '98 RAM 1500 gasser. My 04.5 also handles much better. They really improved the suspension and my 04.5 handles like a sports car in the curves. My '98 gasser felt heavy and pushed through the turns.
There is really no comparison when I'm towing my enclosed car trailer - the diesel is light years better than my gasser. This truck doesn't even seem to know I'm towing the trailer and, while in cruise control, it never shifts out of overdrive when climbing some pretty steep hills in northern Alabama, Tennessee, etc. My gasser was always searching for gears in cruise control even on flat roads with overdrive disengaged, so I rarely could use cruise control on my gasser. The gasser even searched for gears when I wasn't towing and there was a very slight grade. This is my first diesel and I'm amazed at how well it pulls.
My neighbor has a '98 RAM diesel, 6 speed, 2wd and is getting 24 mpg or better mixed city/hwy driving. I was hoping to get that when I bought my truck. I also realize that I will lose mileage with the 4wd and auto. I guess it's just human nature to always want more than you have. I'm very satisfied with my truck so far.
I also own a Unique 427S/C Shelby Cobra. Check out my ride on clubcobra.com

I'm retireing my 03 HO after putting 113,000 on it in 23 months. It competed on California freeways with the gasses just fine. Love the truck except of course the lift pump. But the only reason I'm selling is my mileage this year will go down to about 10k. After the calcs proved I can have a new one at the same cost of owning one with 113,000 over the next 5 years (tax structure) I said cool I get a new truck. I found it tonight and will have it in the pm tomorow. Same color, same truck except long bed. I've had chevy and tundra between my 98 first gen and my 03 HO and while they all had problems the both Dodge's had the least.

roan, it sounds like you've definitely got a lemon. You should look into getting the thing replaced if possible. Your truck should definitely qualify.

I have the first 04.5 to arive at the dealer, engine made in Jan 04. So it did not receive any flashes and was supose to be the one to need it. Even though the mpg was low at first (10/15) I waited for it to break in. I am happy to say that around 6,000 - 8,000 miles it came around to normal numbers. Pulling 13,000 lbs. at 60 mph = 12 mpg. Empty at 70 = 18. As far as power, ride, and reliabilty all I can say is awesome. My last horse hawler was a 96 3500 with a V-10. This is by far the best truck I have owned.
Everything is stock and if I'm lucky then I'm glad.
