Wheel bearing problem
Wheel bearing problem
After putting 60 miles on a new front wheel bearing it completly seperated. The bearing was installed new. The previous bearing had about 13000miles on it. One side failed then the other right afterwards, then new bearings were installed both left and right side, right side is still good, left side has failed again.
Ball joints are with in specs, new u joints.
What are your thoughts on the front axle is causing this issue, The axle spins freely.
Cheers.

Did you tighten the axle shaft nut to spec?
Position the brake shield (1) on bolts.
Install the hub/bearing to the knuckle. Tighten the hub/bearing bolts to 202 N·m (149 ft. lbs.
Install the hub nut and tighten to 356 N·m (263 ft. lbs.).

The bearing completely seperated. I followed the torque specs on the installation of the bearing.
Today I am putting a new axle shat into it along with another new bearing and new ball joints. See if that solves it other wise seems liek tiem for a front end overhaul.

As long as no heat was used in the installation process the bearing should be good.If it was tightend in such a way as doing the left then right side(front side backside) you will have problems. It needs to be snugged in ,a little at a time, till it is seated, then torque it up.If you crank one side then the other it will **** the bearing and PROBERLY seperate it.I guess if it was installed properly you might have a faulty bearing.Even if it was over torqued I think it would be OK.How it went into the press fit is important.

pretty much the hub fits like a glove inside the steering knuckle, as for the torque specs I followed the book. The bolts were all tight when the bearing was removed.
Not sure what you mean about seperating the bearing if not properly torqued as the bearing flange is one piece then the two bearings sit inside of it along with the spindle. (Sealed unit)
Then the axle nut is torqued up to specs also.
Not sure but I installed a new axle, along with ball joints and a new wheel bearing. Have to wait till next week to get the ball joints for the other side.
I am still stumped as to this problem. I am going to take it into a driveline shop on Monday to have them take a look at it. Just incase there is a problem inside the diff. I changed out the fludi today and the diff fluid was dirty but no abnormal wear inside.
Maybe something got bent on the axle.

03,
Did you write the correct mileage in your first post? 13,000 miles and both bearings failed? I can see one bad replacement bearing as a freak problem, but both failed very early AND the replacement one failed. Weird.
Oh, maybe it was all those jumps you didn't tell us about.
