Whats gone wrong with your Ram?
Looking at getting into an -03 or -04 2wd 2500 w/6spd. After reading through all these posts it looks like most common problems on these model years are u-joints, ball-joints, water pump and lift pump. Ill be picking something up with around 130k miles. Assuming the worst, what the approx cost to fix all that stuff doing the work myself? Just looking for ballpark numbers. Thanks!
went up north over the long weekend, used the 4wd a little bit. yesterday morning went out to find a nice little gear oil puddle next to the drivers side front tire. 54k miles and seals out already? ive owned this dodge 6months and have had almost as many issues as the ford before it had in almost 4years.....
I must be lucky... 2005 only one thing in 80K miles... Solenoid on tranny that engages 2nd gear band literally cam loose from the external part of the tranny forcing the truck to slip and not engage park... $427 (at the dealer) fixed it...
Aside from a few posts... this is a pretty compact list of issues. I'll add mine:
CP3 pump leak - twice (gotta laugh that they tried to deny the warranty both times and said they "never" see CP3 leaks)
front pinion seal
track bar (again, they said "this is rare to fail so soon")
shocks shot, wanted Bilsteins anyway
two tail light bulbs (minor... but two in 5 years? seems a lot compared to my other vehicles)
Sitting at just under 90,000 miles now and wondering how long the lift pump will last. The good news about the issues so far is that none of them stranded me.

I have 84000km on it.
Very lonnnng list
3 grid heaters
3 sets of batteries
2 dvd players
1 complete sunroof ( flew right off the truck lol)
Tie rods, both front axle joints, driveshaft and rear u joint
Steering damper
And about 10 visits and rental trucks till they figured out the engine light and grid heater issue was a computer problem.
I know I'm forgetting things..but I still love my truck. Its by far the nicest truck around and all $ invested I'm hoping I don't have any more serious problems..I was hoping to keep it for as long as the cummins will run. Next year definitely getting a new daily driver though..suburban or escalade to fit the family and dogs

the only problem i've had with my 06 with 70k is the clutch saftey switch... dodge wanted 150 bones for it so i took the switch out butt connected the wires... so now i can start it with the clutch out (or in gear) hahaha
Injectors at 88.000 miles. Now turbo at 97500 miles. Dodge says it got dirt in it maybe. I asked how could it get dirt in it. Stock air filter not good enough. Should I put on a different air system? No that will void warranty. Will you warranty the turbo now? We`re not sure, it might have gotten dirt in it.What do I do? Buy a ford or gm. It`s a 06 2500 4x4 that I bought new.
lets add to the list, had this thing since beginning of august.
belt tensioner
water pump
leaking light on the roof
some thing in the dash for the air conditioning.
then last week i see a drip coming from the front of the motor by the bottom pulley..take it to the shop and they tell my wife the fuel pump
3k to fix
thank god for extended warranty. 3 times in the shop so far since i got it and 4k worth of work....love the truck..but im wondering if i made a bad choice.

2003 -305/555 with 61K, both front unit bearings(Warranty), power steering pump(waranty), one set of front brakes, one set of tires. What needs to be taken care of... front pinion seal(damp, not really a leak) both front u-joints (will upgrade to free spin hubs when the u-joints get bad enought to get swapped out.
The only thing that bothers me about what i've had to do to it was the front unit bearings as they are a poor design from the start.
The power steering pump went out at less than 10K so thats just a fluke in my book. Brakes and tires are normal and expected since 90% of my driving is stop and go in traffic type city driving with many tire eating tight turns.
The more I write in this post the more I realize its been a decent truck. No wonder the thought of replacing it hasn't even crossed my mind.

Both front wheels bearings twice, 6 ball joints, 1 steering stabiliser, 4 tires on warranty, rear u-joint, engine oil leak took 4 tries to get it right and in the end it cost Chrysler a new cam because the tech screwed mine up putting the cam gear on [would leak enough to cause a crank sensor code from all the oil], h2o pump,
This week it is going in for tie-rods - linkage, 4 tires, brakes on all 4 corners and prob some more ball joints.
Was looking to trade but for what they want diff I will throw parts @ this one. The dealers do not want to sell trucks right now. It looks like the bailout $ has given them too much confidence.

Am becoming VERY disappointed in my truck. About 90,000 miles and 4 front axle joints (two under warranty which failed again once out of warranty), one set of ball joints, two tie rod ends (have to replace the whole tie rod), security control module (dealer only part), bed side rusted out, tail gate latch, engine oil leak, radio lights half burned out, drivers seat foam is gone on one side, seat back is loose, heat only blows out of two vents, coolant leak from back of engine, and power mirror quit working. Currently the truck has a clunk in the front end which only means more repairs. The truck has been well maintained and never abused I am the original owner and dont understand why its so hard to keep on the road. Most repairs I have ever put into a single truck let alone in just three years.
The sad point to this is that I think most of us really like these trucks. Why not put a couple of hundred more $`s from the factory for better parts, have a service dept that cares & in a few years dodge would have the reputation that ford trucks had with the 7.3.
