If I were in an auto, every time the traffic would move, truck would be down in first, engine wold rev, etc. In traffic, switching between gears (2nd for 5 mph, 3rd for 10 mph, 4th for 15 mph), the truck stays at idle - give or take. Anyway in these type of conditions, I get better milage than when I'm running out on the highway, whereas an auto gets 50% of teh mpg it would on the highway.
Yep me too. There's no substitute for the economy you can get from simple progressive shifting the manual trans. And ditto the getting better mileage in city driving but my highway mpg runs right on 18 @ 75mph so its really nothing to sneeze at. Also, if I keep it below 65mph I can get an extra mpg. I'm thinking by the time my truck is broken in it'll do 20 with hardly any effort. And I dont think you can come close to those numbers in an auto. Not to say that autos aren't nice. I like them myself for certain things but I'd rather be getting optimum economy most of all and thats the bottom line for me.
