I have the 6 speed manual.

Pro
1.More fun to drive
2.More controll over the truck
3Longer life span
4.longer fluid change intervals
5.No tranny cooler needed
6.doesnt produce as much heat as automatics
7.better fuel economy
8.less power loss to the rear wheels than automatic
9.Truck with standard trans normally has better resale value

Cons
1. Can not enable high idle feature on the newer rams
2. Not as quick as the automatic from loss of boost durring shitting
3. Hours of traffic are not fun

Automatic here:
Reasons:
1. Do not tow enough or heavy enough to justify a stick, even though they are fun to drive!
2. Just straight Laziness
3. Wife perfered a auto over a stick, but this was not the deciding factor.
4. Auto's where a bit faster out of the hole compared to a stick.

Anotehr vote for the manual. In addition to the above arguments, I would say that I prefer a manual in traffic (most people look at traffic as a negative on having a manual). Here is why I prefer it: Usually traffic means that the vehicles are slowly moving 5 to 20 mph. At idle & in 3rd. my truck will go about 10 mph or so. If I were in an auto, every time the traffic would move, truck would be down in first, engine wold rev, etc. In traffic, switching between gears (2nd for 5 mph, 3rd for 10 mph, 4th for 15 mph), the truck stays at idle - give or take. Anyway in these type of conditions, I get better milage than when I'm running out on the highway, whereas an auto gets 50% of teh mpg it would on the highway.

Another Manual guy here. In addition to all of the above, we seem to be forgetting that for the privilage of costly maintenance on the auto, you also pay an extra $1000 up front! Not to mention the mandatory rebuilds that are inevitable as well as the cost of the outright failure that can easily occur. Read the threads on the performance forum. The first thing the auto guys do is spend an extra couple thousand beefing up their transmissions so they can live under the same conditions the manual can out of the box.
Now we are at 2-3k plus maintenance for an auto choice. YUCK !

Manual

Because the automatic's shift points are too high. Don't know of any way to adjust shift points on an 06. Don't like to rev a diesel.

I got the auto because the truck I bought was on the lot, the color I wanted, and had all the options I wanted. I wish I could have gotten the manual, but in traffic, I am glad I don't have it.

Auto, needed the leg room for the kid that gets stuck in the middle front when travelling. (me+wife+4kids) Plus I do a fair amount of stop and go and didn't want to be clutching all the time.
