What Tools Needed for NV5600 Fluid Change?
I'm ready to change the fluid in my NV5600. I have the 17mm hex key, bought it at Sears. I have to get some sealant for the PTO cover, is Permatex suitable? I've never used any kind of sealant like this before, do you just make a bead where the PTO cover goes, then push the cover back in place and tighten the bolts? I thought I remember reading somewhere that when the fill plug is replaced something should be put on the threads, is that necessary??
Thanks
Thanks
Permatex is fine. Clean the surface area on both the housing and the PTO cover before adding the sealant. This will allow the sealant to bond with the suface for a good tight seal. Make a continuous bead on the mounting surface and be sure the bead goes to the outside of the mounting bolt holes. Also dab a little RTV on the bolts threads before installing.
The fill plug doesn't need any sealant since it's a tapered thread.

You don't have to remove the PTO cover to drain the NV5600 transmission. You can also drain the transmission removing only the bottom center bolt from the PTO cover.
Also, I advise you to make sure you can remove the filler plug before you drain your transmission since some members have implied they have had problems such as a seized filler plug.
Finally before you get started, crawl under your vehicle, take a look at the location of the filler hole on the transmission, and figure out how you will actually get the fluid back into the transmission.

Good information above, to get the new fliud in I used the quart bottle and about 15 inches of clear 1/2 inch tubing. 3/8 would probably be better but I had the 1/2 inch on hand. Cut the spout on the quart bottle place the tube over it and the other end in the fill hole. Raise the bottle up to the side of the tranny and then squeeze it to help speed up the flow. Once the bottle is empty, either cut the spout on the next on or replace it with the one you cut and repeat the process until it is full. Mine only took 4 quarts but have heard reports it is supposed to take about 4 3/4 so make sure you have enough fluid on hand.
Thanks for the info fellas. I've read about the Filler Plug being stubborn, I have the 17mm Hex Key I got from Sears, could I slip a cheater pipe over that to provide more leverage?
Thanks again, will be attempting this either Tuesday or Wednesday will let you all know how it turns out.

You shouldn't need a cheater bar. If you do, you're probably turning it the wrong way.
I used a hand pump from Pep Boys to pump in the fluid.
I'm one of them who filled it with about 4.75 quarts before it dribbled out the fill hole.
