What is high idle?
What is high idle?
At the risk of exposing my "Newbosity", I have to ask what the "high idle" is? I've seen people say "you should get the high idle kit" or "should I get the high idle kit?" What the heck is the high idle, is it a problem that needs fixed, is it a performance upgrade. Obviously it has something to do with the CTD's idleing higher but that's all the further I got on my own. I did many searches, and the only results I get are where people mentioned the high idle, but I couldn't find a good explaination of it. Could someone point me in the right direction? Moderator's, please put this in the appropriate place. If I knew what high idle was, I'd put it in the right place, but then again, there'd be no need for this thread at all. Thanks in advance.
welcome to dtr.
high idle is a feature that allows you to adjust your idle speed up and down, not just the stock 750or so rpm. useful for quicker warm ups, running a pto, not letting it idle(which is really bad for the motor), etc.

The cruise control turns it on and off. When the engine is in park, turn the cruise on, and press set. The idle should increase to 1100 RPM's. Use the accel and coast to raise/lower the idle. Your truck may or may not have this function enabled. If it is not, the dealer can do it, but may try to charge you.
BTW, Welcome!!!

His truck is an 01, so he won't have that feature. Welcome to the board R6Luver!! You posted this in the 3rd generation section. You might want to ask this question on the 2nd generation board. PM members Big Blue or BNold as they have installed a high idle feature on their 2nd gen trucks and may can give you some direction.
TexasCTD, thanks for the input, buy my sig says "Kicking myself for selling the '01" so I don't have it anymore. I would like to get a new 3rd gen. eventually and that's usually where I hang out and why I posted it in here. I love this site! I just hope my company doesn't have a monitor on how long I'm on here during work hours. As an IT Consultant, they wouldn't like to see me surfing the net reading thread after thread about anything I can. The wealth of knowledge is great and every 15 minutes, there's another 30 minutes worth of reading. Keep it up!!
