What Clutch for my G56?!?
ok i am ready/need to get a clutch. now idk what i should get? ive looked at the SBC, and it really seems like its the ticket! but its alota $$$. i can get, i believe, a new disk that is suppose to be able to handle 475hp from the local shop (Lakehead Clutch & Brake). they are very a reputable shop and i have heard great things about them from alot of different car/truck people!! and its like 1/3 the cost. what is the stock pressure plate rated at? can it "handle" the bigger hp/tq numbers? WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?!?!
its a daily driver, tow rig year round, and i would like to be able to go to the track a few times. thanks

The remedy is not getting a heavier disc but to get rid of the DMF (dual mass flywheel). This is where the problem is starting with the added power. We tried to change the disc to a more aggressive design in the Duramax trucks with the same flywheel without success.

I've had good luck with SouthBend Clutch. They have impressed me as a good company that stands by their work. Don't know about some local shops, if you feel comfortable and need to save the money? Again, Edge on Hot, daily driver, tow all the time, and runs at the track.... Going be putting your clutch through some abuse.
i had the SBC ofe installed in mine a few months back, works great and i think it's rated at 450 hp and somewhere around 900 ft lb tq. call south bend though and tell them what you do and plan to do with the truck and they will get you the right one for the job. took my tranny guy a whole day to do it, but he takes his time with everything and doesnt rush anything.
I have 30,000 miles on my Con OFE behind my NV5600 and haven't had any problems. Excellent clutch. A little grabbier but definitely liveable.
My buddy has the South Bend Ceramic Button clutch on his 04 Duramax and that is grabbier then mine, but not terrible.
I would think about doing the FE on yours, especially if your going to stack stuff.
