04.5 lift pump died I think help

I was on the freeway and truck lost power doing 70 so I slowed to 60 and still had power but then it started to sound like it was missing and then it started to jump in rpms. I stopped and the truck died and would not start so I towed it home today. The codes that it showes are PO628 and PO148. One of them is something about fuel pressure but I dont remember.

Could be. Turn your key on, then stick your head near the drivers side front tire. If you can't hear it priming, that's probably the case. Mine did the same thing.

Time for a walbro or a airdog...

The dealer just replaced my lift pump with an in tank one for free. It may not be time for that aftermarket pump unless you want it for other reasons.

the truck has 140k on it so I dont think the dealer will do anything. But I need to know if this one is in the tank. dealer wont tell me anything unless I bring it in to them

Most likely your fuel pump is on the drivers side of the engine, and not in the tank. Dodge is aware of the issue and came out with a TSB to replace failed lift pumps with in-tank lift pumps. You should be able to get this done as an extended warranty item at no cost to you .... but depends on the dealer and how hard you fight!

Same thing happened to me in rush hour traffic and my brother-in-law couldn't wait to take a picture of my truck beign towed!

Call a couple of dealers in your area. I had the same problem towing a TT. It failed while slowing for a stop light. Thank goodness for the trailer breaks. My dealer called in and got the OK from somebody to get it under warenty, I think it was Cummins directly. It was a big enough problem for the 04.5 in our area that they had a few pumps in stock.

My 04.5 did the same thing. 115000 miles. Cost me almost $700 to switch to the in tank pump. Good luck on that warranty thing.

If you are under 100k, you should be good with a warranty. I had mine replaced under warranty. If the in tank pump that replaced my engine placed pump goes out, I'll go air dog. These seem to be a crap shoot... My dads 04.5 had 120k miles before his factory pump went out, so he spent the $$ on a FASS.
