i think she died...time for a hot rod pump

well my truck has been running great and suprisingly the clutch has been holding up...well today something went terribly wrong and i am almost certain its the IP

I pulled out into fast trafiic kinda quickly trying to get up to 55, let the truck pull hard thru 3rd and into 4th gear and she was smoking the whole time

after about a half mile i come to a stop and the truck is idling rough...so i make my turn and head home when i noticed, no matter how bad i lug it and try to smoke...i cant get any black smoke like normal with the injectors...instead I am getting a light white haze...i dont like white smoke, it scares me!

now what gets me is that I can NOT feel any loss in power...feels the same as normal, just no black smoke. I have had the 216 code for 13,000 miles so maybe she finally gave up the ghost...either way when it breaks...it means i have to make it bigger, faster, stronger

You did mean PUMP,right? Sounds like it too me.Mine was smoking white when it went out too.I don't like white smoke either.I would have intermitent loss of throttle response, and then it would be fine.It would smoke wicked white alot when it was cold.A new pump and we were going strong again.

oops sorry guys

anyway...took the truck out for about an hour tonight and purposely cruised around giving it all scenarios...ravving to 3k thru the gears, lugging down low, gave the truck one heck of a workout to see how the pump acted...Fuel pressure is and always has been at or above14 idle, and rarely drops below 12 at WOT...no change there

the black smoke is back in force...as many cars found out tonight, truck feels as strong as ever...especially in the mid-range 4th and 5th gear really amaze me everytime i let her pull thru the gear. I am gonna start lookign for a hotrod vp-44 and hopefully get myself one step closer to my goal. I will keep you guys posted

My truck did precisely the same thing once. Mine actually popped, sounded like a gasser backfire... then the white smoke and rough running... Limped her home the whole way thinking I wouldnt even make it home... Then shut if down and check for codes... none.. started it back up and it was fine and has been for 30,000 miles now....

I bet there's a bunch of guys knockin' on wood right now! I'm at the stage where I'd like it to go out so I can bomb it, but the breaking down part SUCKS!
Oh well, here's to 30k more miles after the hiccup.

i think i may have over revved it a lil bit when i was pulling out into traffic...3rd gear actually ended up in the 3200rpm range which is screaming for a 24valve with no electronic upgrades or boxes.

truck is running just fine now...ill worry about it another day....but still keep putting those ponies in my back pocket for the hot rod vp
