I think the fuel pump died. Any suggestions

I just had the oil changed and was driving back and it died coming home. I coasted into my driveway. I drained the filter and it continued to start and then die. So I went and changed the filter. Now it wont start at all and I cant hear the fuel pump. Looks like a gonner at 64,000 miles.

I did a search for fuel pump info but didn't find much. Have there been other issues with this model fuel pump? I called the dealer and he said it is within the 100,000 mile warranty ( I think with deduct.) So I was wondering if anyone else has had problems or experience with this.

Also, would it be worth trying to change this out and rather than replace with another stock pump, get an aftermarket, FASS or something.

Let me know if any suggestions.

the lift pump that dodge uses in the ctd is one of the weak links in your fuel system. if your lift pump has died an upgrade well worth the money is either a fass (pump is loud), glacier, or air dog lift pump-fuel filter-seperator system.

As Hounddog said, have Dodge tow it into the dealer. It is under the Cummins part of the warranty and they will install the in tank unit no charge. At least its supposed to be NC. You may have to argure with the dealer till he looks it up or calls DC to find out it is no charge. The in tank unit is much more dependable that the on-filter one but if you are planning on any big mods it is somewhat anemic as far as fuel supply. More than adequate for stock and will fuel the smaller modules quite well, but if going 100 hp or more than probably not enough. I have not heard of very many if any failures on the intank units till well after 100K and all the newer, 05 and up, trucks come that way anyways. If money & time are issues go in tank warranty, if it's not go Fass or one of the many other very good supplemental pumps out there.

By the way, warranty is "under 5 years under 100k no deductable, if under 7 years under 100K deductable is $100". You may be close so call dealer and have them check your in service date to determine your warranty status.

If you are going to keep the truck stock, go ahead and let the dealer do the intank pump.

If you think you want to "bomb" it a little bit, go ahead and order a Walbro or FASS.
