Ok, not a lift pump- think my transmission died!

Any suggestions?

Here's the deal, this morning I tried to drive it off and it just didn't shift properly and I thought about at work all day. Maybe the TPS? Then I though it seems like low-power and came up with the lift pump solution.

So, not that it's hard to replace, but threw a McAutoparts pump on it for $60. And backing out- it seems like it doesn't want to work in reverse- sounds like it is fighting it self internally.
I'd go look at the TPS but it's behavior is more like a band/linkage or something broke. Got any ideas- what are the many weak points of the transmission- is there an obvious choice that can be replaced without removing the tranmission.

This is a 1991.5 dodge ram w/Automatic.

i've always heard that when autos start to go, reverse is the first to give you the signs.

sounds like the forward clutch pack is binding. that would be the rear clutch pack in the trans. sometimes it starts sticking before it just welds together then the trans is effectively in 2 gears when put it reverse.

Never heard of them doing that, but anything is possible.

Mine wouldn't back up properly when my front clutch started going out. Would drive fine, tow a trailer, etc..., just wouldn't back up so good or at all when it was hot. I got my clue from the little chunks of clutch in the pan and stuck to the filter.

transmission are a lot like women.they are unpredictable. i built and raced torgueflites for almost 40 years. the od trans is basically the same with the od unit on the back. had many a torgueflite apart with the rear clutch pack welded together. would go forward ok but that pack has to release for it to go in reverse.
