Weird starting??

This morning I went to start my truck and after waiting for the grids it wouldn't turn over? No clicking, no dimming, nothing....Turned the key back off and turned it over fine as could be? Did some searching at work and discovered that a yellow wire by the starter can chafe and cause problems. I thought for sure this might be it since I just had my trans done, but from what I can see it is touching nothing and I feel no chafing. When I went to come home from work, it did it again! This time I had to cycle the key 3 or 4 times before I could get it to engage the starter.

My key fob works fine (i.e. locks and unlocks no issues). It does have the Sentry system. You guys got any other ideas?

Thanks,
Shawn

Just found this thread:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...rting+problem*

I think it may be a shifter problem? Does anyone know how or if the shifting linkage can be adjusted? Gonna call my builder in the morning and see if I can swing by there tomorrow night too. I have noticed a few times my gear indicator will disappear and I'll be in no gear at all? I'll have to look the next time and see if it thinks I'm in drive or not.

Open to suggestions though!

Have you had a hard time getting it out of park sometimes? If so its a shifter cable problem. This erratic behavior could also be the first signs of a bad starter. Try starting in nuetral a few times to rule out the starter.

Yep, sometimes it pulls hard. As well as a distinct locking into position for D even though it won't love and it doesn't highlight D. Leaning more and more towards transmission related myself, but starting in neutral is something I didn't think of! Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow.

Sounds more and more like the the shifter cable, and its alot cheaper to replace than a new starter. I replaced it on my 06' for a little under $200 and that included labor.
